WUSC – World University Service of Canada – is a leading Canadian non-profit organization in international development, committed to providing education, employment, and empowerment opportunities that improve the lives of millions of disadvantaged youth around the world
WUSC and WIK are implementing The Learning through Education and Access to Employment Pathways (LEAP) in Kakuma and Kalobeyei refugee camps and in nearby hosting communities in Turkana County, Kenya.
LEAP aims to aim to increase empowerment aims among girls and young women in Kakuma and Kalobeyei refugee camps, and in nearby hosting communities in Turkana County, Kenya.
Girls in these areas are considered to be particularly vulnerable and in need of support
Opportunities to access quality education in schools are very limited in these areas and support for girls’ education is very low in the community relative to that for boys
Through the remedial component, (LEAP will provide digital learning services to girls in primary and secondary school
The remedial classes seek to improve girls’ performance, improve attendance and retention at school, and address the contextual, cultural, and social perceptions affecting girls in Kakuma camps (Kalobeyei Settlement and Kakuma Refugee Camp) and host communities in Turkana County
