Training: Risk Management (Online)

The African Academy for Professionals (AAP) is glad to present a new training on learning Risk Management Skills for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), businesses & public institutions) and individuals interested in these skills.

This course is solely based on the risk management standards that are set by the Project Management institute (PMI). The terms and definitions are derived from the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide Sixth Edition).

By the end of this course, you will be able to: 

• Fundamentals of Risk Management.

This section will present the learner with the basic concepts of risk management as a basis for understanding the tools and techniques that will be presented throughout this course.

This will mainly comprise of the following areas:

-       Benefits of risk management in various projects.

-       Risk management processes.

-       Process structure.

-       Risk management’s critical success factors.

• Groundwork for identifying and recording risks.

This section will enable the learner in proactively planning for the risks and identifying them as well. The objective of the Plan Risk Management process is to have a document, the Risk Management Plan, that defines how risk management activities will be carried out in the project or organization. This will mainly consist of the following areas:

Ø  Inputs

o    The types information and documents that will be needed to analyze the risk and provide the required output.

Ø  Tools and techniques

o    The set of tools and methods that can be used to analyze the incoming information and transform it into a Risk Management Plan.

Ø  Output

o    Designing and creating an effective Risk Management Plan.

The second part of this section will be focused on identifying the risks that may affect the project or organization. The learner will be able to record the identified risks by their characteristics which will enable him or her to have the appropriate tools and techniques in:

Ø  Identifying the risk process.

Ø  The structure of the metalanguage used in recording risks.

Ø  The quality criteria of risk statements.

• Risk analysis for prioritizing risks.

Once the risks are identified, the learner will be to understand the elements of Qualitative Risk Analysis process. This will help him or her in prioritizing the set of identified risks and consider the critical factors to be taken into account in order to carry-out a high-quality process.

• Risk response planning and implementation.

This section will elaborate on the concepts, tools and techniques that are used to determine suitable strategies for managing risks as well as planning and implementing response actions.

• Risk monitoring.

Risks are constantly recurring within any organization and this is why this section will equip the learner with the elements that make up the Monitor Risk process and the information that must be updated to the Risk Register documents. This conclusion will show how the Monitor Risk process is linked to other Risk management processes.
