Course description
The African Academy for Professionals (AAP) is glad to present a new training on GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), businesses, public institutions and individuals interested in this field.
Course Description
The aim of this course is to provide both a solid theoretical and understanding a comprehensive practical introduction to the use of geographic information systems and also build the capacity of students. The course will introduce the participants to the Geographical Information System (GIS) concepts, devices, data, operations and capability. At the end of the training course, the trainees are expected to perform basic GIS operations including making maps and basic GIS data manipulations.
Course Objectives
Upon completion, the participant should be able to:
- To provide the students with fundamental concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- To familiarize the students with GIS software by hands-on experiences.
- Identify, locate, and acquire spatial data pertinent to projects in their field of interest, as well as pinpoint significant gaps in or problems with existing information.
- Understand the data creation process and create simple data sets and/or add to existing data
- Create spatial data from tabular information that includes a spatial reference
- Perform basic spatial analyses (attribute and spatial queries, buffering, overlays) as well as linking these methods together in a more complex analytical model.
- Create high-quality maps and associated graphics and text that clearly communicate spatial information and analyses.

He has special career skills and is equipped with all required Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Professional Geographical Information System (GIS) tools.
