    Job Description

    Responsibilities: 

    • Supervise and approve regular accounting, including monthly reconciliations, monthly and yearly closing of accounts, monthly journal entries
    • Supervise cash and bank balance checking process when closing the monthly accounts
    •  Coordinate projects and annual budgeting, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, and donor regulations
    •  Analyze budget vs. actual performance, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
    • Collaborate with the program staff to monitor actual and forecasted expenses against budget to avoid under and overspending on the projects; comply to the flexibility rule
    •  Manage cash flow, accounts payable/receivable, and general ledger functions
    • Anticipate financial risks, present budget updates and mitigation plans and report them to the
    • Ensure effective budget management through monthly BVA, spending plan and compliance review and constructive feedbacks shared with respective unit on monthly basis
    • Prepare and review financial statements and reports with precision and compliance.
    •  Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and provide recommendations for improvement
    • Ensure the compliance of financial reports with donors and internal rules and procedures
    • Ensure adherence to accounting principles and regulations.
    • Implement robust financial policies and procedures for efficiency and risk mitigation.
    • Ensure the compliance of financial reports with donors and internal rules and procedures
    • Review administrative/financial terms of contracts before signature (payment & financial reporting schedule, etc.)
    • Coordinates external and internal audits, serves as major focal point for planning and conducting audits;
    • Lead the process of the ongoing improvement of financial systems and internal controls.
    • Follow-up payments from donors and financial project close-out (contract liquidation)
    •  Mentor and guide finance team members to foster continuous improvement.
    • Set performance objectives and support professional development
    • Capacity building of the program teams in financial management;
    • Comply with CAAP policies regarding child protection, Code of Conduct, PSEA, Child Safeguarding, CRM, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, and donor policies and procedures.
    • Actively promotes PSEA standards within CAAP and among partners and beneficiaries.
    • Perform additional tasks as requested by the line manager.

    Skills and Qualifications

    Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills

    • Bachelors/Master degree in Accounting, Business Administration, financial management
    •  Minimum 6 year of relevant experience for BA holders and 4 year for Master holders in grant compliance, auditing, and financial management
    •  Proven and progressive experience in financial management of different donors in NGO setting
    • Significant experience in financial monitoring, budgetary systems, and controls with strong analytical skills
    • Proven ability to prepare budgets and donor financial reports.
    • Demonstrated capacity and prior experience in staff management and supervising others as a coach/mentor to develop financial skills of colleagues
    •  Awareness of international accountability standards including HAP (Humanitarian Accountability Partnership) and a demonstrated commitment to promoting these standards in ways of working and project implementation
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc., and the ability to use various commercially available accounting software programs (particularly QuickBooks online) is preferable
    •  Fluency in English, Somali and Amharic is required
