JOB DESCRIPTION PROJECT OFFICER - SOMALIA

POSITION:                                          PROJECT OFFICER (2 Positions- Somali nationals only)

REPORTING TO:                              Area Coordinator/Program Manager

BASE:                                                   AFGOYE

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

 

·         Undertake the day to day project activities at the field level.

·         Ensure that at the field level the project is implemented in the area assigned

·         You will ensure timely monitoring of the activities at the field as well as facilitating regular updates to the head office.

·         Ensure that project activities are implemented in accordance with the approved project documents.

·         Build the capacity of field assistants in implementing project activities.

·         Ensure a smooth working relationship and in collaboration with other stake holders on ground, relevant community and partner’s   personnel.

·         Assist SHACDO in identifying needs and plan humanitarian interventions for most vulnerable communities in target areas.

·         Assist in coordinating SHACDO work with beneficiaries, local authorities and other stakeholders.

·         Participate and conduct a baseline and end line surveys/researches and provide reports to the organization for decision making.

·         Collect all substantial information from interviewees and local authorities, community based organizations or members of civil societies that can support the report writing and the data analysis

·         Assist and facilitate the logistics procedures and requirements at the field.

·         Coordinate and supervise project assistants in the project implementation and monitoring

·         Ensure compliance of administrative and financial procedures of SHACDO and donors.

·         Liaise and network with relevant local actors and stakeholders

·         Ensure that all experiences and lessons learnt during the project course are well documented for the use of future references

Skills and qualifications

Competences and professional skills           

·         Proven experience in livelihood activities including income generating activities, food security, resilience and managing risks;

·         Understanding of poverty, vulnerability and resilience and inequality in access to resources, assets and services;

·         Demonstrates in-depth understanding and knowledge of the current guidelines and project management tools and utilizes these regularly in work assignments;

·         Creating synergies through self-control;

·         Proven knowledge of and experience with donor funding environment and good financial and project management skills;

Required Qualifications

·         Bachelor Degree in food security related fields; i.e. Agricultural engineering, Agronomy, Crop Science, development studies or other relevant degree.

·         Minimum of 3+ years of experience in direct implementation of agriculture extension and working with subsistence farmers, knowledge of working environment.

·         Development and oversight of small-scale rural agriculture projects.

·         Fluent spoken and written Somali

·         High level of spoken and written English.
