Job description

SARD is currently implementing a substantial WASH project with the funding from SHF in the Baidoa district of Bay Region, Somalia and seeks to engage the services of a competent WASH Project  Officer to assist the Program Manager in the coordination of the implementation of the Project.

Job summary

The duties of the Project  Officer shall include the following:

1.    Project implementation:

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of WASH projects.
  • Conduct needs assessments and baseline surveys to identify WASH needs and priorities.
  • Participate in the design of WASH facilities, including water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities.
  • Oversee the construction and rehabilitation of WASH infrastructure.

2.    Technical support:

  • Provide technical support and guidance to field staff and partners in implementing WASH activities.
  • Ensure adherence to international and organizational standards and best practices in WASH interventions.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff, community members, and partners on WASH-related topics.

3.    Community engagement:

  • Mobilize and engage with communities to promote participation and ownership of WASH projects.
  • Conduct hygiene promotion campaigns and educational activities to improve hygiene practices.
  • Establish and support community-based WASH committees.

4.     Monitoring and reporting:

  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and impact of WASH activities.
  • Collect and analyze data to inform program decisions and improve project outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports on project activities, challenges, and achievements.

5.    Coordination and collaboration:

  • Coordinate with local authorities, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of WASH activities.
  • Participate in WASH cluster meetings and other relevant forums to share information and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other sectors within the organization to ensure integrated programming.

Skills and qualifications

Applicants applying for this position are required to have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in WASH projects or related fieldwork.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience in community engagement and capacity building.
  • Knowledge of WASH sector standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in Somali and English
