SOS Children’s Villages invite applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.
Position title : Anesthetist (1 Position)
Reporting to : OT in Charge
Location : Baidoa
Position Summary
This position having understood equipment and materials needed for a given procedure. Is responsible for stocking operating rooms with appropriate material such as any necessary medications, including injectable anesthetics and disposable single-use syringes. Disposable items must be inspected to ensure that their packaging is intact and the contents are sterile. Also responsible for ordering supplies, and managing budgets and inventory. In addition, monitoring the content of gas cylinders, replacing them as necessary, and ensuring their safe storage.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures the operating table is set and ready for the operation.
- Ensures that it’s in good working condition.
- Ensures that it’s fully charged and the charging cable is disconnected
- Check the anesthetist machine as per the machine checklist before every operation
- Ensures the anesthetic machine is working
- Ensures that there is good supply of pipes gases.
- Ensure that the pin index cylinders are mounted on the machine and have gases in them
- Assist in wheeling the patient to and from theatres.
- Assist the anesthetist intubation, maintenance and reversal of anesthesia
- Ensure that the anesthetic cart has sufficient drugs require for anesthetizing the patient
- Ensures that the consumables required for intubations are in theatres and ready
- Assist the anesthetist in reversing the patient.
- Ensures he has a working suction unit ready.
- Ensure that all drugs and consumables used by the anesthetist are recorded on the technician charge sheet.
- Assist the other team members in cleaning theatres, surgical instruments and sluice room.
- Ensures the operation table is clean and ready for the next operation
- Ensures the anesthetic drug and consumable used are replaced are replaced in the anesthetic cart.
- Set up, check and maintain aneasthetic workstation, life support machine and associated equipment.
- Prepare intravenous drugs and the therapy administration equipment.
- Talk to patients about medical procedures and check whether they have any medical conditions that could cause problems under aneasthesia.
- Induce and maintain adequate aneasthesia.
- Make sure that patients are positioned in such a way NOT to cause discomfort during their procedure.
- Transfer the patient to the post anesthesia care unit.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe working environment.
- Establish and maintains a high level of morale in the department by providing support to other members of the recovery ward and bank staff.

Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent.
- Post graduate qualification in a specialized field.
- At least 4 years’ experience
- Knowledge of sterile technique
- Knowledge of anesthesia sets and equipment
- Knowledge of anesthesia equipment, invasive lines and respiratory equipment
- Ability to participate in restocking supplies and maintaining par levels
- Process thinker with excellent analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills in English Language
- Highly presentable, hardworking and committed
- Maintaining strict confidentiality
- Pleasant attitude and friendliness
- Self-driven and result oriented, able to meet targets.
