About the Job
The Mechanic contributes to operational efficiency in the Somalia logistics department by providing day to day support to the fleet management and the entire logistics department. Carries out preventive maintenance and repairs on ICRC vehicles and other logistics equipment in accordance with guidelines from headquarters and manufacturers’ recommendations.
This is a resident/national position based in Baidoa with frequent work-related trips to other parts of Somalia.
Duties and Responsibilities
• In collaboration Vehicle Fleet Manager or Logistician maximizes fleet efficiency and effectiveness through planned resource allocation and preventive maintenance
• Carries out repairs on light vehicles, generators, forklifts and other ICRC mechanical equipment and takes part in welding, body repairs and painting
• Provides and organizes training for fleet staff on technical aspects (diagnostics, repairs, maintenance techniques), transfer of technology, proper use of diagnostic and other electronic equipment, tools and machinery and ICRC administrative procedures
• Supports the Mechanics with complex diagnostics and technical problems with vehicles and generators and suggests solutions
• Carries out preventative maintenance on ICRC vehicles, pumps and generators, to internal and/or the manufacturer's specifications
• Updates and maintains the Fleetwave Centralize (FWC) software system, electronic logbook, electronic spare parts catalogue
• Carries out basic repairs on ICRC vehicles and maintains generators in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations
• Ensures that spare parts and consumables stocks are kept at the agreed levels; takes part in placing orders for spare parts and equipment
• Is responsible for tools or other property issued by the ICRC and keeps inventory for tools and equipment in the workshop and stores
• Establishes and updates job cards based on maintenance history for all vehicles and other logistics equipment and provides reports and statistics
• Adheres to the Health and Safety regulations at the workplace
Skills and qualifications
Minimum qualifications and required competencies
• Secondary School certificate
• Certificate in Motor Vehicle mechanics or automotive Engineering
• 3 years’ experience in a similar position; experience in a humanitarian environment is an asset
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali
• Knowledge of welding and electricity
• Experience working with Generators and Motorcycles
• Valid Driving licence
• Computer skills
