Job description
The Role:
Project Assistant Livelihoods will support and contribute to Food Security & Livelihoods sector towards Improved and resilient livelihoods and food security for child wellbeing. With technical guidance and mentoring from a Project Manager & Technical Specialist, the incumbent will support the project management team, ensuring high-quality, accountable, community-focused project design and implementation with a bias towards crop production, livestock production and natural resource. The incumbent will disseminate useful & practical agricultural and livestock information relating to good agricultural practices, crop husbandry improved seeds, natural resource management, afforestation and reforestation, water management practices/techniques, irrigation, soil and environmental conservation/ rangeland management, identification and treatment of pests and diseases of agricultural crops, S/he will be participating in the project assessment and evaluation and any other information as relates to specific project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct community awareness.
- Provide correct project information to communities.
- Project team identification, registration and verification of project beneficiaries.
- Community and farmer trainings through setting up and management of community level demonstration plots.
- Contribute in the formulation, review and revision of key project working documents.
- Capacity building and mentoring of communities and the target beneficiaries
- Produce quality, timely field visit reports.
- Organize meetings during field visits to collect and consolidate gaps and opportunities for use in subsequent projects.
Skills and qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelors degree in Agriculture/ Agronomy/ Plant breeding/ Horticulture/ Agricultural extension/ Agribusiness Management/ Animal or Livestock Science/ Rural development/ Development Studies or related field.
- Minimum of two years relevant experience in similar or related role within relief and development work.
- Practical experience in Crop Production, Soil and Water Management, Pest Management, Post-harvest handling techniques and marketing.
- In-depth knowledge of Agronomy, cropping calendar and recommended/preferred seed varieties in operational areas is a must.
- Computer literacy in MS word, MS excel and Power point.
- Experience in community based participatory development approaches strongly desired.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ultra-poor graduation (UPG) models and experience in community/beneficiary coaching and mentoring.
