JOB OVERVIEW

The WASH Officer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene programs to address the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. This position requires strong technical expertise in WASH interventions, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with local communities, partners, and stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of WASH services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY

v  Assessment and mobilization

Ø  Conduct field-based needs assessments and consolidate the information for planning and implementing WASH project activities in Somalia.

Ø  Translate field assessment findings into feasible and relevant project proposals

Ø  Mobilize community members to actively participate in WASH interventions.

v  Design

Ø  Design appropriate sanitation facilities for the target communities.

Ø  Design and implement a context specific health promotion strategy for the operation area.

Ø  Implement appropriate WASH requirements; waste management, safe water supply and hygiene promotion, in ERDO facilities.

v  External coordination

Ø  To participate in field level WASH coordination meetings and representing ERDO in a professional manner.

Ø  Close coordination with Directorate of Water, Municipality, and environment, to ensure the effective supervision of activities during implementation, ensure the proper handover of completed activities to relevant Directorate.

Ø  To coordinate ERDO activities with other partners working in area to avoid duplication and best use of resources. 

Ø  To Share monthly ERDO WASH activities progress with the WASH cluster meeting.

v  Monitoring

Ø  Develop and implement a monitoring plan for all WASH activities in the area of jurisdiction. Identify forums for community involvement in monitoring of WASH activities.

Ø  Integrate WASH into primary health care activities

Ø  Supervision and Training

Ø  Directly supervise the WASH assistant(s) and Community Volunteers

Ø  Develop and implement capacity building plans for WASH assistant(s) and community volunteers.

Ø  Develop and implement context specific training guides on hygiene promotion for community volunteers.

v  Reporting

Ø  Provide timely reports on the field trips, monitoring visits and assessments to the WASH Manager.

Ø  Compile weekly, monthly and other ERDO substantial reports as may be required; including donor reports

Degree/Diploma with 4 years working experience in the field of public health or water engineering or other related disciplines; plus relevant work experience in community water, Sanitation and hygiene programs for displaced populations.

Be able to use a wide variety of software, including Word, Excel and Power Point.

Ability to work independently in a result oriented multi-tasking and multi-cultural environment and manage conflicting priorities.

Proven practical experience in the planning and execution of water and sanitation projects. Possibly experience in social work and / or humanitarian assistance.

Demonstrated experience of integrating gender and diversity issues into WASH Programming.

Fluency in English, oral and written with strong report writing skills
