JOB DESCRIPTION VETERINARY & LIVESTOCK OFFICER
Duty Station: Beledweyne, Hirshabelle State, Somalia (with travel to project areas as required)

and veterinary services to pastoralists, agro-pastoralists, smallholder farmers, cooperatives, NGOs, and government
programs. The company responds to critical gaps in animal health, crop productivity, access to quality inputs,
climate resilience, and extension services across South-Central Somalia.
Som AgroVet Ltd operates a mobile, community-based, and market-oriented service model, combining veterinary
care, livestock management, agricultural advisory, input supply, training, and project implementation support. The
company aims to become a trusted national agro-veterinary service provider, supporting food security, livelihoods,
and economic recovery.
Job Purpose
The Veterinary & Livestock Officer is responsible for providing professional animal health services, livestock
production support, disease surveillance, vaccination campaigns, veterinary pharmaceutical management, farmer
extension services, and livestock business development activities. The officer will support pastoralists, agropastoralists, livestock traders, and commercial farmers to improve animal health, productivity, and livelihoods.
Key Responsibilities
1. Animal Health Services
Diagnose, treat, and manage livestock diseases and health conditions.
Conduct routine animal health inspections and assessments.
Prescribe and administer veterinary medicines and vaccines.
Provide emergency veterinary interventions during disease outbreaks.
Support disease prevention and biosecurity measures.
2. Vaccination and Disease Control
Plan and implement livestock vaccination campaigns.
Monitor disease outbreaks and report cases to relevant authorities.
Conduct disease surveillance and epidemiological data collection.
Support quarantine and disease containment measures.
Promote preventive healthcare practices among livestock owners.
3. Livestock Production and Management
Advise farmers on livestock husbandry and management practices.
Support breeding improvement programs.
Promote improved feeding and nutrition systems.
Provide technical guidance on dairy, beef, camel, sheep, and goat production.
Monitor livestock productivity indicators.
4. Veterinary Pharmacy Management
Manage veterinary drugs, vaccines, and medical supplies.
Maintain stock records and inventory systems.
Ensure proper storage and handling of veterinary products.
Monitor expiry dates and stock utilization.
Prepare monthly stock reports.
5. Business Development and Client Relations
Promote Som Agro-Vet veterinary services and products.
Build relationships with livestock associations and cooperatives.
Identify new business opportunities in veterinary and livestock sectors.
Support sales of veterinary medicines, vaccines, and agricultural inputs.
Assist in preparation of service contracts and partnership agreements.
6. Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation
Maintain accurate records of treatments, vaccinations, and field activities.
Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
Collect and analyze livestock production data.
Support project monitoring and evaluation activities.
8. Compliance and Quality Assurance
Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations and standards.
Follow company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
Maintain professional ethics and animal welfare standards.
Support licensing and regulatory requirements for veterinary services.
Skills and qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Health, Animal Production, Livestock Management, or
related field.
Registration with relevant veterinary professional bodies is an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in veterinary and livestock services.
Experience in livestock disease control and vaccination campaigns.
Experience working with pastoral and agro-pastoral communities.
Previous NGO, private sector, or government livestock sector experience is desirable.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of livestock diseases and treatment protocols.
Experience in veterinary drug and vaccine management.
Knowledge of livestock production systems in Somalia.
Data collection, analysis, and reporting skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Languages
Fluency in Somali and English (written and spoken).
