Position: Project Assistant (Protection)

ActionAid International Somalia (AAIS) is looking for a committed and inspirational Project Assistant (Protection) who combines passion for social justice with proven experience in quality delivery of protection programming with focus community led protection.

The Role:

The Project Assistant (Protection) will be supervised by the Women’s Right and Protection Coordinator. The Project Assistant will coordinate and implement protection activities in Beledweyne, Somalia. The Project Assistant will plan, implement, monitor, and document all protection activities in collaboration with the Women Rights Coordinator and the ActionAid Manager, Somalia Program. He or She will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of activities in the field including implementing conflict-sensitive and protection analysis, facilitating access to services via information dissemination and referrals, lead awareness and conduct training and capacity building to relevant stakeholders.

The Project Assistant will support mapping of women and youth-led CBOs, movements, and networks, working on GBV prevention and other protection programmes and facilitate capacity strengthening for selected organisations and movements in organisational development, fundraising, programming, networking and advocacy. He/She will support CBOs and movements to enable them to effectively engage, and support community led protection work in targeted IDP settlements. He/She will support the establishment of small business incubator for women and girls to develop ideas for Income Generation Activities.

Skills and qualifications

Education, experience & technical competencies.

1.       University degree in Law, Social Science, Anthropology, Development Studies, Gender Studies, International Development, or other relevant fields from a recognized institution.

2.       Minimum 3 years’ work experience in Protection, GBV, child protection with a demonstrated focus on protection program design and implementation.

3.       Protection in working an international NGO, UN agency or in humanitarian response setting.

4.       Experience in working with displaced and/or conflict affected populations, such as refugees or IDP

5.       Knowledge of community-based protection approaches, preferably including experience in working with IDP’s, Refugees or returnees.

6.       Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel and database software) and willingness to develop further.

7.       Good cooperation skills, ability to work well independently and in a team.

8.       Experience working with International NGO’s, UN agencies and/or local authorities in complex emergencies.

9.       Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.

10.    Strong listening and empathy skills, as well as commitment to supporting women and child’s survivors/at risk.

11.    Strong planning, organization and problem-solving skills with ability to in a demanding work environment.

12.    Proven record of providing training and workshops on protection needs and concerns.

13.    Excellent knowledge of laws, policies at this context.
