Job description

Overall purpose of the role: 

Responsible for undertaking implementation of protection activities in the Beletweyne including emerging emergencies such as drought responses, new arrivals and displacement in Beletweyne, Hiraan. The caseworker will be responsible for providing case management support in line with key protection principles including best interests of the client, confidentiality, do no harm and child participation. The case worker will oversee provide quality, timely and age-appropriate survivor-centered case management services and psychosocial support as well as prevention activities. The case worker will work in Beletweyne conducting site visits; follow up and monitoring of protection concerns in line with case management guidelines.

Responsibilities: (in bullet points).

  • The GBV Case Worker will be responsible to provide the day-to-day Management of all GBV cases and including the identification, documentation, developing case plans and follow up and case closure processes in line with the GBV case management standard operating procedure (SOP), IASC guidelines on case management and GBV minimum standards.
  • Conduct initial and follow up assessments for GBV cases and prioritize them according to risks levels.
  • Regularly follow up to ensure all services and action points listed in the case plan are carried out within agreed time frames. Ensure that progress is regularly reviewed.
  • Provide individualized orientations on services to support clients through social service referrals, medical access and advocacy services by assessing and evaluating each client’s needs.
  • Utilize provided GBV data management tools and systems to record information about clients’ access to services, in line with the principle of confidentiality, and utilize aggregate information to improve service delivery.
  • Ensures that Survivor Centred Approach Guiding principles maintained and the principle the principle Do No Harm, safety and confidentiality of beneficiaries’ data are upheld
  • Provide weekly case update to supervisor including new cases identified, number of referrals, cases closed and follow ups.
  • Liaises directly with other service providers working on GBV and with communities where DRC is implementing programmes and facilitate referrals to other service providers (health including Mental health, Shelter, NFIs and /or legal providers, etc.)
  • Coordinate referrals and advocate with service providers supporting GBV survivors to provide confidential services to clients, in accordance with their wishes, GBV guiding principles and informed consent.
  • Facilitate the setting up of information desk and safe space where adolescent and women of reproductive ages can access Sexual Reproductive Health information.
  • Contribute to the identification of at-risk girls, boys and women and ensure proper documentation
  • Support GBV at risk individuals or survivors by referring them when necessary and in respect of their consent to other service providers (Health, legal counselling, shelter, livelihoods or mental health etc)
  • Participate in GBV data analysis process at the area level
  • Share feedback from and to the key informants related to the PMS process, findings and actions taken
  • Provide psychological first aid and referrals for survivors of protection incidents in line with the survivor-centered approach to ensure their protection needs are addressed.
  • Conduct spot observation in areas where returnees and IDPs are living for inclusion in protection mainstreaming
  • Support capacity building and prevention activities in the sites, including delivering training sessions to protection actors, community structures and women groups on case management principles, GBV core concepts, GBV guiding principles, referral pathway etc.
  • Ensure compliance with case documentation, case file management and reporting requirements including assess and monitor client progress at regular intervals to ensure progress on goals is made; designated resources are maximized as per CM steps.
  • Facilitate and conduct Awareness Raising campaigns on GBV prevention including during 16 days of activism against GBV
  • Support other protection activities as directed by LM
  • Any other duty assigned by the line Manager   

Skills and qualifications

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)

  • At least 2 years of experience in Social Work and Case Management Interventions.
  • Skills: Team work, analytical skills, negotiation and communication skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure (responding to high risks cases)
  • Computer skills: Microsoft office, IM systems
  • Languages: Somali (written and spoken), working knowledge of English is desirable
  • Demonstrable experience in Case management (GBV and/or CP), Psycho- social first Aid (PFA), Psychosocial Support (PSS), protection in Emergency (PIE,GBVIE, CPIE)

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)

  • A diploma in Sociology, Psychology, Law, Human Rights, Development Study Social work, or other relevant degree.
  • A university Degree in the above fields is an added advantage

Conditions

Contract:           6 months with the possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance. Salary and other conditions are offered by DRC’s Terms of Employment for National Staff; Employment Band NM level I2.

Availability:       15th October 2024

Duty station:     This position is based in Beletweyne
