Position                  :     Female Public Health officer (1 Position).

Location                 :      Berbera and Sheikh              

Reporting to            :      Project Coordinator

SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland (SOS CV) is a part of SOS Children’s Villages International, the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland Association is affiliated. SOS CV is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that is not for profit, non-sectarian and non-partisan and which has been in existence since 1999.  SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland shares vision with SOS Children’s villages International and beliefs that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security. To realize this, SOS Children’s Villages in Somaliland builds families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities.

SOS Children’s village in Somaliland is seeking to recruit health officer who will be working with Family Strengthening programs of Sahil region (Berbera and Sheikh) and performing activities related to the health components under two projects of Family Strengthening namely FS Sahil and FS Berbera.  

SOS Children’s villages in Somaliland is seeking a dynamic health officer responsible capacity building and providing guidance to the families, children and young people in the programs.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Contributes to the implementation of all aspects of health components to meet programme objectives.
  2. Contributes to the implementation of all aspects of health components to meet programme objectives.
  1. Implement all activities of the projects
  2. Prepare detailed annual plans, budgets, result based reports and planning schedules
  3. Hold regular reviews and assessments with all beneficiaries /TGs, Support Groups, CHWs and contact persons and identify areas for improvement
  4. Maintain a healthy relationship at all times between the staff, families and contact persons.
  5. Attend regular department meetings
  6. Develop a capacity building plan aimed at strengthening the coping capacities of the families in the target group
  1. Ensure all children under 5 years are immunized or have taken immunization standards.
  2. Build the capacity and train caregivers on a range of topics, for example hygiene and sanitation, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, communicable and non-communicable diseases and MPHSS.
  3. Identify traumatized caregivers and provide support based on their needs.
  4. Build the capacity of community health workers and link with exiting services providers.
  5. Assess health facilities in the targeted communities, and link with families through community health workers.
  6. Prepare satisfactory result based reports, case studies and lessons learned (best practices, challenges and observations).
  7. Monitor health performance and progress of all the participants supported by the projects.
  8. Closely work with the families had health goals in their FDPs and provide supports.
  9. Keeps regular contacts with service providers to ensure that services are provided according to objectives and actions agreed in Family Development Plan.
  10. Closely work with Key implementing partners (CBOs) and local authorities and regional health office with the aim of linking families for providing health support.
  11. In partnership with regional health office and CHWs, monitor hygiene and sanitation for the families supported by the Family Strengthening Program and provide support.
  12. Provide referral and counselling sessions for caregivers, children, young people and CBOs as well.
  13. Organize regularly home visits and observe implementation of health goals in their Family Development plans.
  14. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

 

Skills and qualifications

§  Degree in public health from recognized universities or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area of nutrition, and nursing.

  • Minimum of 4-5 years relevant work experiences in NGOs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. 
  • Able to lead a team
  • Good knowledge of children’s rights and youth development
  • Awareness and understanding of social development issues, such as the local and national OVC situation, youth, gender, education, health
  • Good understanding and interpretation of the SDGs
  • Able to work independently, also in a diverse group, using initiative and keeping commitments
  • Excellent computer skills (Windows, Word & Excel)
  • Good reporting skills
  • Have an experience in economic empowerment, livelihoods, and resilience
