Civil Engineer

Position title: Civil Engineer
Location : Bosaso 
Duration 4months possible extension 
Task : construction of 30 houses at Gribble Refuge camp 

Formal Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field .

Experience: 5 years

Technical Skills:

• Software Proficiency: AutoCAD, MS Project, Primavera, Excel, Revit.

Engineering Knowledge:

Construction methods, materials, structural design, surveying, quality control standards .
• Project Management: Planning, scheduling, cost estimating, and budgeting . 

Soft Skills:

Communication (written and oral), problem-solving, teamwork, leadership, organizational skills, attention to detail, and negotiation . 

Detailed Breakdown of Responsibilities

1. Planning and Site Setup

· Setting Out: Precisely marking the site to define the position, level, and alignment of all construction elements according to the architectural and engineering drawings. This is often the first and most critical task.
· Reviewing Designs: Thoroughly checking all project drawings and specifications to identify any errors, discrepancies, or potential construction issues before work begins.
· Planning Work Sequences: Determining the most efficient order of operations to meet project schedules.
· Coordinating Resources: Liaising with the project manager to ensure that materials, plant (equipment), and labor are available when needed.

2. Health, Safety, and Environmental Management

· Enforcing Safety Protocols: Ensuring that all site personnel adhere to company and legal health and safety regulations (e.g., wearing PPE, using equipment safely).
· Risk Assessment: Identifying potential hazards and implementing measures to control them.
· Site Inspections: Conducting regular safety walks and inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
· Environmental Compliance: Ensuring that construction activities minimize environmental impact, such as controlling dust, noise, and water pollution.

3. Quality Control and Supervision

· Monitoring Workmanship: Supervising construction activities to ensure they meet the required quality standards and specifications.
· Materials Testing: Organizing and reviewing tests on construction materials (e.g., concrete slump tests, soil compaction tests) to ensure they are fit for purpose.
· Problem-Solving: Resolving technical issues that arise on site, often requiring quick and practical solutions that still comply with the design intent.
· Supervising Subcontractors: Managing and directing the work of various subcontractors to ensure their work is coordinated and meets quality standards.

4. Administration and Reporting

· Site Diaries: Keeping a detailed daily log of all site activities, including personnel, work completed, deliveries, and any incidents.
· Progress Reporting: Providing regular updates to the project manager on progress, highlighting any delays or issues.
· Quantity Measurement: Measuring and recording the quantities of work done to assist the surveyor in preparing payments to subcontractors and suppliers
