Duty Station: SOYDAVO Burao office with 50% travel required to other project sites.

 Project Profile in Summary

This project supports ISF’s Somali Country Program for 2022-2025 by addressing the root causes of SGBV/FGM-C, and harmful practices against women and girls, in Togdheer and Sanaag Regions of Somaliland. SOYDAVO’s implementing strategy targets religious and traditional leaders, girls, men, boys, parents, health professionals and other duty bearers.

SOYDAVO is cognizant that factors contributing to harmful practices (HP) and violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Somaliland are based on social, cultural, religious, political, and economic norms and structures that condone gender discrimination and unequal power relations between men and women., SOYDAVO seeks to mobilize the collective efforts of religious and traditional leaders, girls, men, boys, parents, health professionals, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and other duty bearers. SOYDAVO also intends to roll out specific target group actions aimed at empowering the community to take an active role and ownership of the different interventions thus deepening the communities’ involvement in strengthening mechanisms to reduce the prevalence of SGBV/FGM-C.

The creation of Young Girls’ clubs and the use of SHGs to reach each corner of the community pursuing total behavior and attitude change in the community will enhance the sustainability of the interventions and support ISF’s country program.

SOYDAVO has been instrumental in rolling out interventions aimed at mitigation and prevention of harm full practices against women and girls for the last 7 years. SOYDAVO intends to build stronger and better collaborations with government, village committees, religious leaders, and other community role models and provide women with knowledge on legal and human rights, as well as on formal referral mechanisms and support services.

Job Summary

Job Description the Project Manager will be expected to lead and complete a project throughout its Six months’ probation period. The Project Manager will supervise and work directly with two Project Officers and one Finance Officer in Togdheer and Sanaag Region. The Project Manager, under the supervision of SOYDAVO Executive Director, will share the project outcomes to local, national, and international stakeholders/ISF for reporting and advocacy purposes. The project staff will develop partnerships and cooperation pathways with local actors to increase population planning group’s access to basic services to prevent the root causes of Entrenching Community Mechanisms to Mitigate The Prevalence Of SGBV/FGM In Togdheer And Sanaag Regions Of Somaliland. This position demands a highly motivated, independent, and dedicated individual with strong assessment skills as well as the ability to effectively advocate. A hands-on working experience in humanitarian environment, and the ability to handle difficult living and working conditions.

Responsibilities include.

  • To provide ongoing leadership, training, and guidance to staff and partner to ensure programming meets best practices and prioritizes the security of beneficiaries & staff.
  • Direct day-to-day activities of Entrenching Community Mechanisms to Mitigate the Prevalence of SGBV/FGM In Togdheer and Sanaag Regions of Somaliland project.
  • Planning and implementing of all activities of SOYDAVO and environment and International Solidarity Foundation of Finland (ISF) Entrenching Community Mechanisms to Mitigate the Prevalence of SGBV/FGM In Togdheer and Sanaag Regions of Somaliland project.
  • To monitor and evaluate project activities, keeping relations with ISF and other local stakeholders under the supervision of SOYDAVO Executive Director.
  • Supervise and coordinate all activities of the project.
  • Controlling and safeguarding of all assets and materials of the Entrenching Community Mechanisms to Mitigate the Prevalence Of SGBV/FGM In Togdheer and Sanaag Regions of Somaliland project.
  • To ensure sound administrative practices with regards to record keeping, procurement and financial requests.
  • Striving to collaborate and maintaining good working relations with local authorities and local communities, engaging different stakeholders in taking active part in the project’s core issues.
  • To Guide stakeholder forums and provide them with technical guidance to develop policy brief on the needs of women and girls.
  • To facilitate linkage between local community and authorities.
  • Preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual program reports of the project.
  • Organizing, managing, and chairing meetings of the staff of the project in Togdheer and Sanaag region.
  • Supervising and directing work performance of the project.
  • Controlling and checking the course handout of the different trainings and awareness.
  • Reviewing reports and financial returns before final submission.
  • Implement the policies and procedures as laid down by the Board of Directors.
  • To manage the project budget in line with SOYDAVO policies and practices.
  • To ensure that all internal and donor reporting requirements are met.
  • To contribute to project proposal writing, to identify and elaborate new intervention based on SOYDAVO strategies and in collaboration with SOYDAVO Executive Director.
  • To fulfill all donor and SOYDAVO HQ reporting requirements, ensure the timely preparation and submission of financial and narrative reports.

 

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor/master’s degree in psychology, Social Sciences, or related fields
  • The successful candidate will be able to craft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential.
  • Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and highly organized, and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information.
  • A high level of computer literacy required, including familiarity with Raisers Edge and Foundation Center databases.
  • Candidates must possess an ability to work well under pressure and the ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form.
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants, and 3 -5 years of relevant experience are required.
