Math Teacher

Burao Academy of Science and Technology is currently recruiting a motivated, self-reliant math teacher for the 2023-2024 school year, commencing on January 5, 2024.

We are looking for ambitious and motivated teachers to take on an exciting challenge to teach in Somaliland.

Burao Academy of Science and Technology Overview:

The school is an independent, non-profit, coeducational, boarding school serving grades 7 through 12 and offering comprehensive education with special focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) as well as practical career training in the technical field. The school prepares students from the Horn of Africa for real world situations with a seamless combination of strong academics, technical applications, and analytical problem-solving skills. The school uses common planning time, an extended school day, and teacher collaboration to drive student achievement.

Responsibilities:

ü   Reinforce materials taught in the classroom

ü  Teach approximately 24 lessons (45 minutes each) in-person per  week

ü  Be available for students office hours one hour per week

ü  Supervise study hall one hour per week

ü  Prepare lesson plans, create student assessments and record grades in Gradelink, school management database

ü  Lead areas of interest after school student club

Qualifications:

ü  Bachelor's degree or higher

ü  Experience teaching, lesson planning or supervising children in an education setting

ü  Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively

ü  Ability to adapt to change and be flexible

ü  Strong subject-matter expertise

Mathematics Teacher Requirements:

ü  + Certification strongly preferred

ü  Teach grades 11 and 12 mathematics (algebra II and precalculus)

ü  2+ Years of hands-on experience with Khan Academy

ü  The ability to effectively use technological tools and resources for teaching.

ü  Ability to resolve basic / complex problems as directed

ü  English language proficiency required

ü  Computer-building background experience preferred

ü  Technological Literacy
