ZamZam Foundation is looking for Protection Officer-GBV

ZamZam Foundation is a non-governmental and not-for profit organization, established itself in the heart of the humanitarian emergency that followed the outbreak of the civil war in Somalia in 1991. Since then, we have grown to become the largest national humanitarian and development organization in Somalia with nearly three decades of experience providing relief and support services to those most affected by the joint forces of war and famine.

Position: Protection Officer-GBV

Contract Length: 12 months

Location: Hirshabelle (Bulaburte)

The general purpose is to ensure effective and efficiency implementation and facilitation, follow up and supervision of all nutrition activities for ZZF

Job Responsibilities

  1. Be in charge of supporting the protection project activities per the activity plan and time period of the relevant project proposal, as well as any applicable national and international rules and standards.
  2. Deliver high-quality and confidential GBV case management services in accordance with GBV minimum standards and available country guidelines; this includes screening, counselling, treatment, and referral-linkage processes.
  3. Conduct GBV prevention, mitigation mainstreaming & awareness sessions with ZZF staff, community health workers, respective from the Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development (MoWHRD) and targeted communities.
  4. Provide care, support, and protection to GBV survivors, focusing on GBV case management in a conducive and safe space.
  5. Conduct Gender awareness sessions at the community level for target communities.
  6. Support effective implementation of SOPs and adapt them to local context where required and support the development of local level GBV SOP where required.
  7. Supervise and guide community case workers/ community health workers on the safe identification and referral of GBV survivors.
  8. Disseminate educational materials on the prevention and help-seeking behaviour of GBV cases.
  9. Function as the GBV focal point in the targeted district and coordinate the implementation of GBV activities with other stakeholders.
  10. Maintain and strengthen the comprehensive integration of GBV plans of intervention.
  11. Conduct staff performance appraisals and ensure that the staff are performing within the competency level required by the organization.
  12. Attend the relevant protection-GBV state-level meeting, monthly protection, and health cluster coordination meetings.
  13. Prepare and submit periodic reports of the program's progress and achievements.
  14. Support the health and nutrition coordinator in the implementation of GVB project activities.
  15. Facilitate regular meetings to facilitate information sharing between facility staff, community members, respective government departments (such as MoWHRD), relevant clusters, and other stakeholders to ensure quality GBV services.
  16. Oversee the data collection, collation, and dissemination process to meet the requirements and deadlines set by ZZF, relevant government, donors and/or other stakeholders.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Nursing, community health, Psychology, or relevant science with over 3 years of experience in similar role with NGOs with a certificate on GBV, SGBV and clinical rape management.
  • Know Knowledge & experience in community mobilization strategies.
  • Project cycle management
  • Excellent programme planning,and evaluation
  • Interpersonal/communication and report writing skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams
  • Conceptual Skills (planning, organizing, strategic thinking, management process)
  • Experience in GBV programming
  • Strong planning and implementation capacity
  • Confident and capable negotiator, communicator and networker
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
