SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.
Job Title: Temporary Nutrition Nurse (5 positions)
Report to: Nutrition Supervisor
Location: Bur-Hakaba
Job Summary:
The employee is expected to provide a high standard of promoting optimum health and preventive health care, thereby contributing to a safe, efficient and effective service to patients. The employee will also provide assistance to the doctors and the other medical care team where appropriate, recognising that the effective management of hospital depends on effective communication and participation of all members of the team.
Roles 1) Management of Severe Acute Malnutrition
- Check anthropometric measures, MUAC, and oedema and cases to appropriate structure
- Record properly all screening results and write daily, weekly, monthly reports
- Check any absence from OTP or TFC attendance. Help in investigating and acting on causes of default and non-response or an increase in deaths
- Detection of severe acute malnutrition in the community and provision of treatment for those without medical complications with ready-to-use therapeutic foods or other nutrient-dense foods at home
- Provide nutritional and medical care
2) Infant and Young Child Feeding and Behavior Change
- Maintain clear communication with all other OTP/TSFP staff regarding the status of beneficiaries, including OTP nurse, supervisor, measurers and community mobiliser.
- Offering practical advice and education to mothers on the key issues of Infant and Young child feeding practices
- Ensure all mothers/care givers are aware of the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the initial 6 months
- Discourage and educate mothers on the dangers of feeding bottles by exchanging used bottles for cups and spoons
- Emphasize on hygiene practices
3) Mobile Outreach
- Assist the Nutrition Supervisor in planning for monthly mobile outreach to the community ( In Bay and Banaadir Regions)
- Disseminate public health and nutrition education messages to improve knowledge, attitude and practices
- Hold community sensitization meetings on proper nutrition
- Instruct individuals, families and other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention and childbirth, and develop health improvement programs
4) Reports
- Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity
- Monitor, record and report to the doctor in charge any symptoms and changes in patients' conditions
5) Data Protection
- At all times ensures that personal data of donors, sponsors, SOS CV beneficiaries and their families as well as SOS co-workers is handled confidentially and in accordance with prevailing SOS-Kinderdorf International data protection laws.
5) Performs other reasonable tasks as assigned from time to time.
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nurse, PH or related field
- Minimum 3 years of progressive professional experience in Managements of Immunization, or had work with Health Partner for MCH Projects
- Excellent command in Somali and English
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ward Management Skills
- Basic Knowledge and experience Nutrition
- Proactive, result oriented, independent, able to identify and carry out duties with minimum supervision
