Job description

We are seeking a well-rounded and capable specialist with experience in renewable energy or infrastructure projects to support a wide range of early-stage development activities for our HAYYU Power-to-X (PtX) project in Djibouti. The position will cover requirements in several areas as needed to ensure smooth and effective business operations, including compliance initiatives, community engagement, and office administration. The specialist will be responsible for in-country HSE and ESG activities, ensuring that the project complies with relevant local and international standards.

 

???? Your main responsibilities include - but are not limited to! - the following:

  • Serve as a general representative of the HAYYU project throughout Djibouti; serve as a conduit for information exchange, ensuring effective communication and alignment of objectives across all levels of the organization.
  • Act as a liaison and problem solver between local communities and stakeholders, field personnel, and head office.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures in line with Djiboutian laws and international standards such as the World Bank.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor HSE and ESG strategies that aligns with corporate goals and local regulations; ensure all HSE and ESG permits and licenses are obtained.
  • Conduct regular HSE audits and risk assessments, ensure that all potential hazards are identified and mitigated, and provide HSE training and awareness sessions for project staff and contractors.
  • Collaborate with the project management team to integrate HSE and ESG considerations into project planning and execution; manage any HSE or ESG-related incidents or emergencies in coordination with Country Management.
  • Keep abreast of changes in HSE and ESG legislation and best practices, particularly those relevant to PTX technology and Djibouti’s regulatory environment.
  • Prepare periodic reports on project environmental and social management and the environmental and social performance of CWP Djibouti activities.
  • Ensuring daily administrative activities, overseeing operational efficiency, and providing essential logistical support to facilitate the seamless execution of our projects.

Skills and qualifications

Who you are:

  • Master degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience, preferably in energy or infrastructure projects.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Djibouti, community engagement approaches, and environmental, social, and safety regulations.
  • Relevant certifications in HSE, ESG or similar professional areas.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills; ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively under pressure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in English, French and Afar; knowledge of Arabic and Somali is a plus
