Job Title: Radiographer

Background

In response to the critical care needs in Sanaag, the DoTERRA Healing Hands Foundation and Asli-Maydi Jibril Foundation are established the Sanaag Speciality Hospital, a non-profit organisation located in Erigavo City, Somaliland. The first phase of the hospital is made  up 45 bed  facility  of A&E, OPD, Diagnostics, Maternal (including delivery) and a Paediatric Health offering.  The hospital is currently fully operational with a well-equipped laboratory, pharmacy and operating theatre.

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly-skilled, experienced radiologist to join our growing hospital healthcare team. In this position, you will use imaging technology to diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries. You will educate the patients and their families on how they should prepare for each procedure, monitor patient condition during the tests, configure the equipment to produce quality images and consult with other medical professionals during the diagnostic process.

Interact with Patients along with compiling a medical history for the patient and providing them with any necessary protective clothing or gear The ideal candidate has four years of experience working with radiology equipment, preferably is board-certified, has strong verbal and written communication skills and wants to make a difference by working in a fast-paced setting, radiographers work closely with physicians to diagnose patient ailments.

Highly desired specialised skills include, Experience Administer Radiation Treatments, working alongside specialist to deliver radiation therapy for various types of cancer. Specialized Radiography (For example mammograms). Assisted During Surgery, some surgeries, especially those that are particularly invasive, require the assistance of medical imaging to allow the surgeon a better view of the patient’s body.

Reporting: Directly to the Medical Superintendent

Primary responsibilities for the position include:

  • Provides information to diagnose patient illnesses by operating radiologic equipment to produce radiographs. Identifies patient service requirements by establishing a personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into a specified position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors. Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; and verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, providing explanations of treatment, and answering questions.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media; and administering first aid and using the emergency cart.
  • Maintains production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures, developing radiographs, observing radiographic results, and making necessary adjustments.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

 

Skills and qualifications

  • Associate degree in radiologic technology from an accredited school or two (3) years of experience in a directly related area
  • Valid state Radiologic Technologist license
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Trauma, fluoroscopy, and surgery experience preferred.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent communication and management skills.
  • Previous experience in similar position – added advantage.
  • Preference/desire to work in Erigavo
