The Female Internship Programme

The Female Internship Programme is a learning opportunity aimed at attracting young and talented candidates across the globe. The programme will provide selected candidates with the opportunity to supplement their academic knowledge with a practical work assignment in a field related to the work of WFP. This will promote better understanding of WFP Somalia’s mandate and programmes. Similarly, the programme will provide WFP with qualified individuals specializing in relevant fields in line with WFP’s Strategic Objectives and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

WFP’s activities include food assistance for relief, school feeding, safety nets, nutrition and food assistance for assets creation through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers. You will be part of a dynamic team that effectively identifies, monitors, evaluates, and manages the organization’s strategic, operational, and financial risks in support of WFP’s country strategic plan for Somalia.

This position is open to qualified Somali female nationals.

What will you do?

Under the guidance and supervision of the IT Assistant, the intern will be required to undertake the following:

  • Install and configure new computer hardware for improving and upgrading system performance; support any technology upgrades as required.
  • Develop technical skills and knowledge and build awareness of industry developments.
  • Carry-out system and equipment maintenance tasks, such as back-up system data and system protection, to ensure they are running effectively and enable easy and efficient use.
  • Receive and inspect all incoming assets for Cash-based Transfers (CBT) and report discrepancies to senior colleagues and stakeholder Units (Programme, Logistics, Administration, Finance, Procurement).
  • Ensure information is up to date and accurate within inventories, databases, websites, and archives in order to support senior officers in managing these systems.
  • With direction from senior colleagues, collate information to be included in standard material such as training documentation and web content, to contribute to the availability of information about services and products.
  • Follow set emergency response processes and procedures as required to provide support in enabling emergency food assistance needs to be met.
  • Respond to queries from users, understanding and resolving issues, providing advice and ensuring Technology (TEC) policies, procedures, systems and tools are correctly applied to support them.
  • Receive lists of potential mobile money beneficiaries from DAS Lead or alternate, review, compare and validate names from SCOPE against those from the Mobile Network Operator.
  • Print SCOPE Cards and activate them.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

 

Skills and qualifications

The Internship Programme is open to Somali female candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Completed an undergraduate or graduate degree programme (e.g., a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree) in a recognized university in the areas of Information Technology and Information system, Computer science, Software Engineering, Information science or another related field with a great interest in ICT work?
  • Candidates must have completed an undergraduate or graduate degree in the last 6 months.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English and Somali
