Position Summary
We are looking for an Accountant that is a highly motivated and well organised accounting professional with preferably a construction background. The incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of financial controls as agreed with the construction management team with a specific focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial accounting, management accounting, fixed asset accounting, inter- company accounting and cost centre accounting.
The Accountant will also be tasked to review construction budgets, investigate variances, track expenses, and ensure that construction invoices are issued to clients and payments are collected in a timely fashion. He will be responsible for maintaining proper records as well as perform monthly closings, prepare and organise various accounting reports, and analysis for senior management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting
- Implementation of financial controls as agreed by the construction management and with a specific focus on accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial accounting, management accounting, fixed asset accounting, inter-company accounting, project system, controlling process, cost centre accounting and profit centre accounting.
- Prepare month end closing, overhead assessments and required settlements.
- Submit periodic cash forecasts to management.
- Lead internal budgeting, profitability analysis, results analysis and unsettled costs.
- Review all construction documents, including work plans and fee structures
- Working closely with the construction and logistics team, perform a review of budgeted project cost versus actuals.
- Prepare closing journal entries, to recognise revenue and cost of sales, and provide an update on inventory.
- Prepare monthly financial dashboards and monthly cash flow statements as agreed by the management.
Systems Accounting
- Enter invoices into designated accounting software, schedule payments and enter daily transactions into the system.
- Balance accounts receivables and payables on a daily basis and maintain files.
- Maintain key expense statements and reimbursements approved for payment and prepare re conciled periodic reports for senior management.
- Prepare and maintain accounting documents and records in preparation for internal and external audits.
Financial Administration
- Prepare fund requests, general ledger postings and statements.
- Research, track and restore accounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.
- Communicate routinely with the Construction/Project Managers on a variety of job-related topics including contract agreements, bank deposits etc.
- Advise management on cost overruns in projects against envisaged budgets.
Compliance
- Guide management in all accounting principles in accordance with the established standards, procedures and applicable laws in Somaliland.
- Prepare and submit government reports for taxation purposes following appropriate guidelines.
- Contribute operational/accounting procedures to prepare and adequately manage the entity’s rapid growth and changing business structure.
- In collaboration with the site teams, prepare wages for the site trades personnel and share the same with the line manager for review and approval.
- Responsible for all accounting activities with statutory compliance and accounting standard requirements.
- Maintain the fixed asset register.
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of accounting or other related fields.
- Any renowned accounting qualification/certification will be an added advantage.
- Three years of general accounting experience and a background in the construction industry in Somaliland.
- Experience on construction management or general contracting or subcontractor industry experience.
- In-depth knowledge of the practices in modern accounting.
- Proficiency in managing account reconciliations, general ledgers, and journal entries.
- Ability to prepare construction/project budgets, tax reports, and financial forecasts.
- Efficient and extensive experience in project invoicing and billing to ensure adequate payment services.
- Proficiency in either of the electronic accounting systems specifically; QuickBooks .
- Typing skill at least 30 words per minute
