Job description

  1. Organization and Position Overview

Welthungerhilfe is a German-based international non-profit humanitarian and development organization. The ultimate vision of Welthungerhilfe is to see a world without hunger and poverty. WHH has been working in four regions of Somaliland (Awdal, Maroodi-jex, Toghdeer and Sanaag) since 2001 with multisector interventions. It secures funding from German Government external cooperation (BMZ, AA), WFP, EU and private donors of Germany for its interventions in Somaliland.

WHH seeks to engage an experienced individual to fill the position of Junior Nutrition Field officer. The successful candidate will be working under the supervision of the Head of Project and in close cooperation with our local partner organization in nutrition field activities to ensure quality implementation of the project.

Duties and Areas of Responsibility

  • Conduct regular field visits to guarantee working locations and to verify actual status of ongoing nutrition activities.
  • Ensure that case finding, screening, treatment and referral of malnourished children are implemented and running smoothly.
  • Supervise SBC Activities including nutrition education sessions conducted by the CNWs in the house-to-house visits and mobile outreach sites.
  • Ensure that standard nutrition guidelines for prevention and management are strictly adhered to in the implementation.
  • With the support of CNWs, organize case finding to identify malnourished children at community level.
  • Assist/support Nutrition Supervisors and CNWs with the compilation of monthly data reports and preparation of monthly nutrition supplies inventories and requests.
  • Handle IYCF-E activities including technically supporting Child Friendly Spaces, IYCF Counsellors, and Community Nutrition Leaders.
  • Support and mentor mothers to effectively breastfeed and with the introduction of appropriate complementary feeding.
  • Provide regular and consistent technical assistance to Nutrition Supervisors and CNWs during implementation.
  • Assist in organizing and conducting training activities and nutrition related events.
  • Support the identification of needs and designing of nutrition sensitive approaches to address the nutrition needs of the target communities.
  • Support the documentation and implementation of best practices and lessons learnt.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program work plan.
  • Any other duty assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Skills and qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or related field
  • At least 3 years’ experience in nutrition activities in Somaliland.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Computer skills
  • Fluency in English and Somali language required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Able and willing to stay for extended periods under simple rural conditions.

  1. Language Requirement

Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is a requirement.
