Chief Operating Officer

Kalkaal International Insurance is a licensed sharia compliant insurance company which is a subsidiary of Dahabshil bank International. We are seeking applications for the position of Chief Operating Officer, Kalkaal International Insurance.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer 

Location: Hargeisa, Somaliland

Job Purpose

The COO is the technical point of reference for all underwriting, claims, reinsurance, and risk management staff and responsible for the day- to – day operations of the company. The role holder will ensure that the company has all the required operations, procedures, systems and oversees the implementation of the policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

1.      As part of Senior Management, participate in strategic planning for the Company.

2.      Work collaboratively with Senior Managers in the businesses to put in place systems, processes and controls that improve the overall efficiency and service delivery, while managing risks.

3.      Develops, leads, maintains, and oversees underwriting, claims, reinsurance, and risk management processes.

4.      Lead the development and documentation of all policies and procedures relating to the business operations.

5.      Continuously improve the daily workflows to ensure efficiency, cost control and adapt best practices where applicable.

6.      Play a key role in ensuring that procurement relating to major items/projects is handled in line with documented procedures and that all tendering is done in the best interest of the Company.

7.      As part of the Senior Management, support the creation of an environment where there is high productivity, accountability and focus on customer service.

8.      Assist in recruitment and selection of talent to build and maintain the Company.

9.      Manage the performance of employees through clearly defined targets and continuous monitoring and feedback.

10.  Maintain and build trusted relationships with key customers, partners, vendors, and other stakeholders.

11.  Collect and analyze data for implications regarding budget, projects, business growth.

•      Business related first degree.

•      Master’s degree in insurance, reinsurance, risk management or any related field.

•      Professional certification in insurance or risk management is an added advantage.

•      6+ years in financial service, with experience in insurance, preferably Takaful insurance.

•      Experience for at least 3 years as a team leader.

•      Proficient in MS office.

Job Specific Competencies

•      Ability to conduct reinsurance treaties analysis, interpretation, and quarter statistics preparation.

•      Competent in risk analysis and preparing portfolio risk profiles, preferably in an insurance company.

•      Ability to handle claims and proficient in claim management.

•      Have a broad – based knowledge of insurance business products and risk management.

•      Ability to prepare business plans and budgeting.
