Job Title: Project Coordinator (Agriculture Development)
Reports To: Country Program Coordinator
Place of Assignment: Hargeisa (With frequent travel to project areas)
Valid from: ASAP
Position Purpose:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate the implementation of the Darwin Initiative Project entitled ‘Climate Resilience, food and livelihood security for agro-pastoralists in Somalia’. The incumbent of this position also supports other technical Country Programme components and/or interventions related to agriculture, agro-biodiversity, natural resource management and nutrition.
The Project Coordinator will work closely with DF implementing partners, authorities, community members, smallholder farmers and other relevant stakeholders to ensure high quality delivery of the project objectives.
The Project Coordinator will assist implementing partners in developing and utilization of appropriate tools and guidelines related to agro-biodiversity, Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), business development related to seed markets, natural resource management and nutrition and will assist the partners in training on the said themes.
The Project Coordinator will conduct regular follow up visits to project areas to undertake project quality assurance and advise the implementing partners to ensure timely and effective implementation of project interventions. The Project Coordinator is responsible for project planning and reporting in close liaison with DF MEAL and the Finance teams.
Detail Duties and Responsibility:
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
· Coordinate annual planning and budgeting exercises of the project (Climate resilience, food, and livelihood security for agro-pastoralists).
· Review, consolidate and ensure quality and consistency of individual annual plans and finance forecasts from partners in collaboration with MEAL and the Finance team.
· Coordinate project implementation with partners and other stakeholders in collaboration with MEAL and the Finance team.
· Carryout frequent monitoring exercises to the project operation sites and deliver MEAL reports.
· Follow up the partners in the area of adhering to the prevailing agreements.
· Follow up on the status of project implementation and project budget utilization.
· Work closely with the Finance team in review of budget realignment requests from partners.
· Take part in consolidation of reports to be sent to donors and other relevant stakeholders in consultation with the CPC and the CD.
· Coordinate the implementation of project technical activities and provide partners with support in areas including: establishment/management of Community Seed Banks, assist the review and enforcement of seed policies, business development, improved agricultural activities, natural resource management and nutrition).
· Contribute to the continuous revision of DF programme technical guidelines/manuals including on agricultural, natural resource management and nutrition.
· Participate in food security, agricultural and nutrition technical meetings and events.
· Support the Country Office in the development of new project concepts including advise to partners.
· Assist the Country Programme in fundraising and resource mobilization initiatives as applicable.
· Make sure gender is mainstreamed throughout the project cycle.
· Performs other related tasks as required.

· Create good interaction and communication with partners and other relevant stakeholders.
· Develop good working relationship with other stakeholders in the sectors where DF is working.
· Represent DF in relevant fora related to agriculture and nutrition.
· Performs other related tasks as required and assigned by the CPC and/or the CD.

Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in agriculture (plant science), nutrition or related with emphasis on agronomy, CSA, dietary diversity, seed supply system and crop management, livestock husbandry.
- Technical trainings on Project Cycle Management, MEAL, Communication/visibility, Gender mainstreaming, Community Development, Participatory Rural Appraisal,
- Minimum 3 - 5 years working with NGOs as a project coordinator on food security, agriculture, nutrition, natural resource management with exposure and experience.
- Experience in project management and report writing.
- General knowledge on livestock and crop integration
- Knowledge regarding actions to contribute to elimination of poverty, injustice and discrimination due to gender.
- Project cycle management.
