Job Title: WASH Site Engineer
Reports To: Head of Water Development
Functional Relationships: Country Director (Somaliland) & WASH Team.
Job Location: Various (Field based)
Contract/Duration: Project Based
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise the earth dam rehabilitation works including the excavation of the dam and construction of other structures.
- Supervise the construction staff and monitor all construction activities.
- Manage all site activities of the earth dam according to the activity stages.
- Check workability of the concrete, seaming quality and material quality.
- Manage the construction of the project to ensure commissioning within the stipulated period and within stipulated budget.
- Coordinate with different levels of stakeholders: community, Rural Municipalities/ Municipalities, and District Coordination Committee.
- Monitor compliance with occupational health standards by organising materials, ensuring sites are safe, clean, and using personal protection equipment.
- Provide technical support to the Foreman/ subcontractors for site verification.
- Closely monitor, observe, as well as supervise the construction of civil works, excavations of the main dam, and construction of silt traps.
- Continuously monitor, observe, as well as supervise the installation of the geo-membrane lining system on the earth dam.
- Constantly monitor and assure the quality and workmanship of all construction works at the site and keep proper records of all quality assurance-related documentation.
- Checking technical designs and drawings to ensure compliance.
- Supervise contracted staff, provide technical advice, and solve problems onsite.
- Prepare monthly progress report of fieldwork (main dam’s excavation, silt trap construction and geo-membrane installation).
- Report instantly any issues (technical, social etc.) on the earth dam site and facilitate to resolve them.
- Submit progress report and measure work completed in percentages to ensure the flow up of the work progress and work schedule.
- Evaluate and resolve any discrepancies and problems arising during construction, which may affect the quality and performance of the work.
- Conduct regular inspections, assess the work performance done by subcontractors, and report any findings to the Head of Water Development
- Any other duty assigned by the Head of Water Development
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or any related field.
- More than 3 -year of experience in site construction supervision special in earth dam construction.
- More than 2 years of experience in the supervision of water projects.
- At least two similar projects over the last 2 years.
- Experience in technical drawings.
- Experience in progress report writing.
- Experience in seam testing for the geo-membrane and dam liner.
- Experience in site concrete tests.
- Proficiency in English and Somali languages
