Project title: Kick start for equality - using sports and arts for girls’ rights

Output 1: enhancing CSO capacity to advocate for the rights of women and girls through greater inclusive and coordinated access to sports and arts, and participatory community dialogue for increased social cohesion

Activity 1.1.2: Conduct training on the use of sports and arts as tools for social transformation and social cohesion and support the formation of a coalition of CSOs and youth-led groups to undertake community engagement, advocacy and policy influencing

A. Organizational background

The UBAH Inspire initiative organization is a women-led initiative that was established April 2017, to respond the sports, arts, networking and women’s wellbeing needs, it is safe and secure environment for women with the sole purpose to help women and young girls to reach their full potential as healthier, more confident and well-connected individuals that have the tools to promote themselves and strengthen their social transformation through information sharing, networking and other inspirational programs.

UBAH has committed diverse and dynamic team that are well-versed with the local, regional and international issues of women with the amble expertise and knowledge to provide short and long-term solutions through initiatives and platforms.

B.     The project background

The Kick start for equality project, is to advance human rights and strengthen social cohesion through community sports and arts engagement in Somaliland/Somalia, with a particular focus on young women and girls. The objective of this project is to contribute to the promotion and protection of women and girls’ rights and to increase social cohesion and dialogue within the vulnerable youth communities. And it aims at achieving 2 broad objectives.

1:  To support civil society and duty bearers in the protection and promotion of women and girls’ rights.

2:  To increase social cohesion and dialogue within vulnerable youth communities.

This project is Implementing consortium members (Ubah Inspire Initiative organization and NAFIS Network)

Funding by European Union through Plan International.

C.    Objective of the assignment

Under this project UBAH aims to strengthen and build the capacity CSOs and youth led initiatives on the use of sports and arts are a tool for social cohesion. The training will provide the key skills, and key competencies for participants to mainstream social transformation and social cohesion in their programs/projects. This will build strong stakeholders base that promotes and normalizes women and girls in sport and empower the women and girls so they can enjoy their human and women rights. Furthermore, a strong and inclusive coalition is formed that are responsible for greater positive awareness, community engagement and mobilization that promotes the importance of women in sports, so that they are in a better position to advocate and influence key stakeholders that are in position to approved the national sports policy.

D.     Specific objective

Conduct a three (6) day training workshop to enhance the capacity of CSOs and youth led initiatives to advocate for the rights of women and girls through collective and inclusive coordinated access to sports and art and participatory community dialogue for increased social cohesion.

E.     Scope of the service

The consultant is expected to complete the following actions:

a)      Develop comprehensive technical proposal demonstrating the content and methodologies of the training that are inclusive of the realistic schedule (inclusive of pre-posttests)

b)     Develop simple community dialogue, mobilization session as well as awareness raising guideline for advocacy engagements

c)      Facilitate the 6 days training in a participator centered approach

d)     Submit quality final report with necessary annex (coalition bylaws a structure, action plan for regular participatory community dialogues)

F.       Deliverables

a.       Inclusive coalition is formed with clear bylaws and structure.

b.      The coalition has drafted attainable action plan for social transformation participatory community dialogue.

c.       Simple community dialogue guideline

d.      The knowledge, understanding and skill of the participants is enhanced

F.      Selection Criteria

a.       Postgraduate qualification relevant to this assignment with minimum of 5year work experience

b.      Proven record of capacity in addressing issues of women and girls’ rights particularly in sport and other social related issues.

c.       Proven consultancy experience in women rights in sport and arts as a social cohesion tool.
