Job Title: Hygiene Officer (Canning Tuna Factory and Fishmeal)

Job Description:                                                                                                   

The Hygiene Officer in a canning tuna factory and fishmeal facility is responsible for implementing and maintaining effective hygiene practices to ensure the production of safe and high-quality products. They play a crucial role in developing and implementing hygiene protocols, conducting inspections, training employees, and monitoring compliance with hygiene standards and regulations.

 

Responsibilities:

 

1.      Hygiene Protocol Development: Develop and implement comprehensive hygiene protocols and procedures for the canning tuna factory and fishmeal facility. Establish standards for cleaning, sanitization, pest control, waste management, and personal hygiene to prevent contamination and maintain a hygienic environment.

 

2.      Inspections and Audits: Conduct regular inspections and audits of production areas, processing equipment, storage facilities, and employee facilities to assess compliance with hygiene protocols and regulatory requirements. Identify areas for improvement and recommend corrective actions as necessary.

 

3.      Cleaning and Sanitization: Oversee and coordinate cleaning and sanitization activities to ensure adherence to hygiene protocols. Develop cleaning schedules, select appropriate cleaning agents, and monitor the effectiveness of cleaning procedures. Verify the proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.

 

4.      Pest Control: Implement and monitor pest control measures to prevent infestations and minimize the risks of contamination. Collaborate with external pest control providers to develop and execute integrated pest management strategies. Conduct regular inspections and maintain accurate records of pest control activities.

 

5.      Waste Management: Develop and implement waste management protocols to ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of waste materials generated during the production process. Monitor waste segregation and disposal practices to comply with environmental regulations and minimize risks of contamination.

 

6.      Training and Education: Develop and deliver hygiene-related training programs to employees at all levels of the organization. Train staff on hygiene protocols, good manufacturing practices (GMP), personal hygiene, and proper equipment handling. Promote a culture of hygiene awareness and responsibility throughout the organization.

 

7.      Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on relevant food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and industry best practices. Ensure compliance with local, national, and international hygiene and sanitation regulations. Implement necessary measures to maintain compliance and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders.

 

8.      Incident Investigation and Corrective Actions: Investigate hygiene-related incidents, such as product contamination or non-compliance with hygiene protocols. Perform root cause analysis, identify corrective actions, and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Maintain accurate records of incidents, investigations, and actions taken.

 

 

9.      Hygiene Monitoring and Reporting: Establish monitoring programs to assess the effectiveness of hygiene practices. Conduct microbiological sampling and analysis of surfaces, equipment, water and products. Monitor hygiene indicators such as ATP testing, swabbing, and air quality testing. Prepare reports summarizing hygiene performance and provide recommendations for improvement.

 

10.  Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and management, to ensure the integration of hygiene requirements into the overall operations.

Skills and qualifications

ü  Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Environmental Health, or a related field. Relevant certifications in food safety. And hygiene are highly desirable.

ü  Proven experience as a hygiene officer or related role within the food processing industry for one year at least.

ü  In-depth knowledge of hygiene principles, food safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., FDA, HACCP, GMP).

ü  Familiarity with cleaning and sanitization practices, pest control strategies, waste management, and personal hygiene requirements.

ü  Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to assess hygiene risks, interpret data, and identify areas for improvement.

ü  Excellent documentation and record-keeping abilities.

ü  Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

ü  Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and interact with stakeholders at all levels.

ü  Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis, documentation, and reporting.

ü  Fluency of English language.
