Agricultural Development Organization ( ADO)

VACANT POSITION:  Project  Engineer

Reporting to: Project Mnaager

Location:   Hargeisa office  with will be Travelling the project Sites.

Starting : ASAP               

Background on ADO
The Agricultural Development Organization - ADO - was established in 1993 and had expanded its activities to the early recovery and development. The ADO has its Head Office in Hargeisa with the regional branch offices in Burao, Borama, and Erigavo of Togdheer, Awdal, and Sanaag regions. Besides, the ADO is currently expanding its programs and presence in the Somali Ethiopia Region, South-central, and Southern Somalia. ADO is an active member of the main local umbrella groups, namely, NAGAAD, SOLPAF, and SONSEF. As well as the ADO has strong networks with academic insititutions in Europe and Africa and collaborates with diverse institutions in the development and agriculture research sectors.

ADO major programmatic works are based on agriculture (crop and livestock) development, water harvesting technology improvement, watershed management, environmental protection, seed and biodiversity conservation. Besides, reducing food insecurity, adaptation to climate change, and mitigation empowered women by providing viable diversified economic sources (i.e., vegetable production and savings) using the smart agriculture technology of greenhouse farming technology and self-help group approach.

ADO  is looking for professionally  and an accountable project Engineer  confident, self-motivated, experienced and committed team player to fill the  Project Engineer

The  Project  Engineer is responsible for all activities associated to the site maintenance and improvement works, (Borholes, latrines,  and Dams) intervention in the sites, under the direct supervision of project Manager   

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contract management for building construction works; including design, preparation of technical specifications, quality control, technical administration, supervision of execution works, preparation of payments certificates, preparation of provisional and final acceptance of works;
  • Carry out technical due-diligence/reviews on existing and new projects;
  • Carry out technical assessment and studies including structural design and drawings,
  • preparation of bill of quantities and cost estimation, environmental and social impact assessment, topographic and geotechnical survey assessment;
  • Participate in desk studies and field visits required to identify potentially feasible projects that are in line with the scope of interest; Followed by preparation of technical assessment reports, minutes of meetings and field visit reports;
  • Maintain records and documentation of all construction related project implementation;
  • Participate in contract negotiations with donor(s), contractors, partners and all related stakeholders.
  • Carryout such other duties and or functions as may be conferred from time to time by the supervisor

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering

·         Highly skilled in report writing.

  • Extremely proficient in the English

·         Integrity, Loyalty, negotiating skills; ability to build strong relationships with partners and stakeholders

  • Be Minimum 6 years of experience in international and/or local NGO; ideally involved in the direct implementation of field level humanitarian assistance.
  • Master’s degree in above related fields are preferred.
  • A project engineer must have good leadership and analytical qualities for successful project deliveries. For that, the professional has to make the right decisions
  • Experience in working with national partners, local/government authorities, and UN organizations. .
  • Technical skills such as using AutoCAD, ArcGIS, ODK and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent English-speaking writing skills and the ability to write and deliver standard reports and other related documents with matching deadlines
  • knowledge of practical construction procedures and interpreting design drawings

·         Extensive knowledge of Structural drawings and reading designs accurately.

·          Communication, acting as a point of contact between all the stakeholders.

·          Problem solving, identifying, and resolving problems to keep the project on track.

·         Willingness and fitness to travel and stay in the field for sustained periods of time
