Job Title: Dean, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities
1. Academic qualifications: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Social Work, International Relations or any other related field.
2. Reporting to: Vice President for Academic Affairs
3. Summary of Job Description: The Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities supervises and coordinates the entire academic and administrative activities of the Faculty.
4. Detailed job Description:
4.1. Plans, coordinates, and directs the academic and administrative activities of the College/Faculty/School.
4.2. Prepares the Faculty’s annual budget and human resources requirements, and implements them upon approval.
4.3. Ensures that all the instructors assigned to lectures on the faculty execute their duties according to the programme.
4.4. Advises students or making sure that students are advised and supported to advance their studies properly in the University.
4.5. Controls and supervises support staff assigned to the faculty.
4.6. Deals with appeals from support staff and students on the faculty.
4.7. Ensures that all the facilities of the faculty are properly handled and utilized for effective operation.
4.8. Coordinates examinations conducted on the faculty, and makes sure that all assigned instructors have executed their duties accordingly.
4.9. Follows up the collection of examination papers of each examination conducted on the faculty, and transferring them immediately to the registrar officers of the university.
4.10. Look for reference materials to be used in the faculty in consultation with the other administrative and academic departments.
4.11. Facilitates the creation of a smooth and educative environment for the faculty in cooperation with the administrative and finance services departments.
4.12. Facilitates the registration activities for the faculty.
4.13. Supervises, handles, and resolves disciplinary cases of the staff, students, and other personnel under his/her jurisdiction.
4.14. Reports about the activities of the Faculty to the Vice President Academic Affairs as the situation dictates.
4.15. Comes up with initiatives and innovations aimed at improving the strategic and operational undertakings of the faculty.
4.16. Performs all other activities directed to him by Vice President for Academic Affairs or any other superiors
Skills and qualifications
Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Development Studies, Social Work, International Relations or any other related field.
Experience: Minimum of four years’ experience as a dean in Higher Education environment.
Required Skills:
· Higher level of interpersonal communication skills
· Excellent command of English
Mode of Employment: Fulltime with 3 months of probation period
Place of Work: Hargeisa, Somaliland
