Electrical Engineer – Solar Energy Systems
Organization: Goodlight Energy Ltd
Duty Station: Hargeisa Office, Somaliland (with travel to project sites)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Contract Duration: 12 months (renewable based on performance)

Overview
Goodlight Energy Ltd is a renewable energy company operating in Somalia and Somaliland, delivering clean, affordable, and sustainable solar energy solutions to households, businesses, communities, and institutions. The company specializes in solar PV systems, commercial and institutional installations, and off-grid and hybrid mini-grid solutions.
2. Position Objective
The Electrical Engineer – Solar Energy Systems will be responsible for the technical design, implementation, and supervision of solar PV projects, ensuring compliance with international standards, high-quality delivery, and effective coordination with clients and internal teams.
3. Key Responsibilities
- Design and engineer solar PV systems (off-grid, hybrid, and grid-connected).
- Conduct site assessments, load analysis, and system sizing.
- Prepare technical drawings, layouts, and single-line diagrams.
- Perform system simulations using AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, or equivalent tools.
- Supervise installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of solar systems.
- Prepare technical reports, BOQs, and project documentation.
- Provide technical input to clients and support proposal development.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise technicians and installation teams.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and international electrical standards (IEC, NEC).
- Support system maintenance and after-sales services.
Skills and qualifications
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in solar PV system design and implementation.
- Strong technical knowledge of solar PV components, including inverters, batteries, and protection systems.
- Proficiency in solar design and simulation software.
- Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel to field locations as required.
- Professional solar or renewable energy certifications are an asset.
5. Reporting Line
Reports directly to the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and works closely with project and installation teams.
