The Lilly Rush Education Center, established by Innovative Humanitarian Solutions (HIS), aims to provide a nurturing and inclusive environment for children facing a range of developmental challenges, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, ADHD, physical disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. Located in Hargeisa, this center is dedicated to empowering these children by offering specialized educational programs and therapeutic services tailored to their unique needs. Responsibility:
Overview
A Physical Therapist (PT) for school children focuses on helping students improve their physical abilities and mobility, facilitating their participation in school activities and enhancing their overall quality of life. The PT works with children who may have physical disabilities, developmental delays, or injuries, promoting their independence and integration within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Assessment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of students to assess their physical abilities, movement patterns, and functional limitations.
• Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each child’s specific needs and educational goals, collaborating with teachers and parents.
• Therapeutic Interventions: Implement physical therapy interventions, including exercises, stretching, balance training, and coordination activities, to improve strength, flexibility, and mobility.
• Education and Training: Educate students, teachers, and parents on strategies to support physical development, including proper body mechanics, adaptive techniques, and the use of assistive devices.
• Collaboration: Work closely with school staff, including special education teachers, occupational therapists, and school nurses, to create an inclusive environment for all students.
• Monitoring Progress: Regularly assess student progress and modify treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in compliance with school and regulatory requirements.
• Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of students with physical challenges within the school setting, promoting awareness and understanding among staff and peers.
Skills and qualifications
Skills and qualifications.
• Education: Doctorate or Master’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
• Licensure: Valid state license to practice as a physical therapist.
• Certification: Certification in pediatric physical therapy is preferred.
Other skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and school staff.
• Patience and creativity in developing engaging therapy activities for children.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of childhood development and special education practices.
Computer Skills
• Very good knowledge of MS Office suite.
Language skills
• English and Somali
