MARDO is a local Non-Governmental Organization based in South-West State of Somalia providing life-saving interventions to address humanitarian needs. The main areas of operation include Food-Security, Agriculture/Livelihood, Health, Nutrition, Water/sanitation and Hygiene promotion and continue to focus on similar priority area such as Education Child protection and emergency projects in the area of the Bay and Bakool Regions of south west state of Somalia.
Job Summary
The Disaster Risk Reduction Officer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring strategies to reduce disaster risks and enhance community resilience. This role involves conducting assessments, coordinating training, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure effective disaster preparedness and response.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk Assessment and Analysis:
- Conduct hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessments to identify community risks.
- Analyze data to inform disaster risk reduction strategies.
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Design and implement disaster risk reduction programs and initiatives.
- Develop action plans and strategies in collaboration with local authorities and communities.
- Training and Capacity Building:
- Organize and facilitate training sessions on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Build the capacity of community members and local organizations in DRR practices.
- Community Engagement:
- Foster community participation in disaster risk reduction activities.
- Raise awareness about disaster risks and mitigation strategies through workshops and campaigns.
- Coordination and Collaboration:
- Work with government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to promote DRR efforts.
- Participate in inter-agency meetings and networks related to disaster management.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Monitor the implementation of DRR programs and assess their impact.
- Prepare reports and documentation for stakeholders and funding agencies.
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Disaster Management, Environmental Science, Social Science, or a related field.
- Previous experience in disaster risk reduction, emergency management, or community development is preferred.
- Strong understanding of disaster risk management frameworks and practices.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse environments.
- Proficient in data analysis and report writing.
