Reports to: Project Coordinator
The following JD is not intended to be all-inclusive and the employee will also perform other related tasks as required and be responsible for reporting and communication of progress and achievement of the specific assigned task.
Overview
Since 1992, WARDI has been providing comprehensive, safe, and inclusive humanitarian and development program in Southern Somalia by integrating health, nutrition, WASH, protection, resilience, and basic education to address needs among the most marginalized and vulnerable people during emergencies and building the resilience of communities to prepare for and mitigate future emergencies.
WARDI’s work is best understood as taking a long-term developmental approach in a complex emergency, creating the conditions for recovery, by linking relief and development. In Somalia and particularly in South Central Somalia, WARDI continues to implement quality, sustainable, and harmonized health, nutrition, WASH, education, and food security programs to address acute livelihood and humanitarian needs.
For this call, WARDI is planning to implement an integrated food security project in Jowhar funded by BMZ through action medeor. The project is an integrated Food security, WASH, Nutrition, and protection project that will be implemented for four years 2024 – 2028. To facilitate its implementation, WARDI is currently recruiting staff for this planned project.
The Project Officer’sduties include the following:
Main responsibilities
· Take leadership of the project in terms of high quality, timely deliveries, narrative reporting, and close cooperation with the project coordinator.
· Oversee all the project activities in the project location, Plan and implement all the project activities in the field, assisting the staff in the field.
· Carry out networking of the project with local administration, and other stakeholders in the project area, maintaining links with community committees and elders, engaging consistently with beneficiaries and other relevant stakeholders.
· .Lead and coordinate the selection of beneficiaries through targeting, registration, and verifications and ensure that the proper beneficiary selection and verification procedure and criteria are followed.
· Prepare detailed activity implementation plans for the activities (distribution of inputs and beneficiaries)
· Provide regular reports and feedback on the status and effectiveness of the activities to the project coordinator
· Closely liaise with partners in Jowhar – implementing FSL, H&N,WASH – to seek synergies and ensure holistic program implementation.
· Identify and sensitize community people and other stakeholders about project goals, objectives, beneficiary targeting criteria, duration of project etc.
· Carry out community mobilization and sensitizations on agriculture input and any other livelihood distributions
· Ensure the establishment of project management committees in all target villages, to ensure that accountability, transparency, and inclusivity in place, during the implementation of project activities.
· Support reporting monitoring and evaluation, assuring that quality reports are submitted using standard project formats and in a timely manner.
· Undertake gender mainstreaming across all project activities
· Effectively communicate project progress in a clear and timely manner and provide project updates in the monthly meetings.
· Submit weekly and monthly reports to the project coordinator &program director.
· Perform other project duties as assigned.
Skills and qualifications
Education and experience
Ø Bachelor’s degree in community development, Agriculture, food security or other relevant areas
Ø Minimum 2-5 years of relevant experience in the humanitarian and development programme and working with NGOs & INGO.
Essential knowledge and skills
Familiarity with Somalia humanitarian/development context, especially Food security and Livelihoods.
Experience in working on complex projects with multiple components in fragile environment
Experience in understanding local contexts
Ability to establish and maintain relationships with state government officials and local community structures.
Ability to manage and work with a team.
Knowledge of MS Office suites.
Proficiency in English and Somali
