JOB SUMMARY

The Lutheran World Federation, Kenya-Somalia Program - Assistant Finance Officer - Kakuma (Open to Kenya Nationals Only)


The Department of World Service (WS) of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is the humanitarian and development arm of the Lutheran World Federation. WS provides support to refugees, returnees, internally displaced people, their host communities and communities at risk, focusing on livelihoods, quality services, protection and social cohesion. The Kenya-Somalia Program has been implementing such interventions in Kenya and Somalia since 1992.

The Kenya-Somalia program of LWF WS is seeking a qualified, experienced, and highly motivated the Assistant Finance Officer who will provide support and guidance to program departments with regards to their financial requests, support procurement verification processes in order to facilitate payments to suppliers and participate in both organizational and donor financial reporting processes.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and keep track of budgets to monitor expenditure and burn rate so as to advise programs on project fund implementation.
  • Ensure completeness of the budget notes tool for all the grants.
  • Receive, review and approve as necessary - Demand Forms raised by program staff.
  • Receive and check cash request documents to ensure full support documentation is in place
  • Process supplier payments records for scanning and onforwarding to head office for payment and follow up to ensure payments are paid up as required.
  • Prepare and process national payroll and ensure compliance of the payroll to statutory deductions and any other deductions as per staff contracts
  • Review work advances, prepare journals and check for completeness by verifying receipts, goods received notes and signatures provided.
  • Support financial reporting process for LWF and donors by consolidating bank transactions including bank reconciliation and uploading the reports on SAGE,
  • Support in preparation of staff listings as per requirement from UNHCR including monitoring and updating of the staff funding matrix for charge outs.
  • Provide overall support and guidance to program such as responding to queries regarding payments and finance processes and offering solutions to problems that arise within the financial processes.
  • Act for Finance Officer during absence as requested from time to time.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field 
  • Or  Full Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or equivalent
  • 3 years’ relevant experience in the finance and accounting function in a humanitarian and development organization
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office programs, particularly Excel
  • Excellent oral and written English skills 
  • Good communication and excellent inter-personal skills 
  • A team player who is responsible, diplomatic and confident at dealing with people at all levels  
  • Planning and organization skills

  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Ability to train and support field program staff in accounting matters
