Job Description

The Department of World Service (WS) of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is the humanitarian and development arm of the Lutheran World Federation. WS provides support to refugees, returnees, internally displaced people, their host communities and communities at risk, focusing on livelihoods, quality services, protection and social cohesion. The Kenya-Somalia Program has been implementing such interventions in Kenya and Somalia since 1992. 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Overall purpose of the role:

The Kalobeyei sports complex supervisor will ensure the effective technical implementation and coordination of the all activities and staff at the sports complex located in Kalobeyei settlement. The position holder will work alongside incentive staff to ensure that sporting activities including football, athletics, basketball, volleyball and handball are conducted successfully at the sports complex. He/she will ensure that the complex is well kept and safe for use by adolescents and youths while supporting partners to access the facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Youth sports for protection and talent development
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of all sports for protection and talent development activities that will be conducted at the Kalobeyei complex either by LWF or other implementing partners.
  • Work with community sports council and partners to train, support, develop and manage coaches and teams. He/she will also ensure that usage of the Kalobeyei sports complex is well communicated to all stake holders within the camp for planning purposes
  • Raise awareness and promote youth and adolescent participation in sport activities at the complex.
  • Ensure that the sports complex is clean, well-kept and repairs are done in good time to maximize usage by project beneficiaries
  • Work in partnership with appropriate organizations and partners including community led organizations (CBOs/RLOs, schools).
  • Plan and organize outcomes-focused activities to engage young people during sessions, underpinned by methods of supporting young people to overcome individual social and emotional barriers and create personal development plans for the future.
  • Gather Monitoring and Evaluation data to document the progress of each activity at the sports complex with emphasis on ensuring that more girls participate in sports activities both for protection and talent development.
  • Develop links and relationships with partners, community groups, and other youth led organizations and potential employers for supporting young people’s progression in sports activities.
  • Hold an archive of key documents and project’s records (attendance sheets, tools, resources…). For all activities, items and equipment’s at the sports complex.
  • Prepare timely and high quality programme and donor reports on project activities (Weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual) in compliance with internal LWF requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
  • Lead the documentation of lessons and actions to profile project outcomes at the sports complex.

Other duties

  • Provide operational supervision to incentive staff in the implementation of project activities by leading in monthly planning with staff and ensuring resources are appropriately utilized.
  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned by Youth Protection Technical Lead

Skills and qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Sports management, youth development, Project Planning and Management, Community Development, Social Work or related fields

·         Proven experience of minimum 3 years working within a humanitarian and development programme.

·         Experience working in an international NGO will be an added advantage.

·         Proven experience in mainstreaming safeguarding standards in youth related activity especially sports

·         An impeccable professional standard of ethics as well as the willingness and ability to implement accountability activities within the LWF World Service essential.

·         Proven knowledge of running sports related activities especially in humanitarian field

·         Knowledge of international and local sports federations and how they work with local/community groups

·         Certification in Program Management or other relevant certifications an added advantage.

COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, use of internet and email
  • Proven experience in Project Management within the humanitarian sector.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including influencing negotiation and pragmatism.
  • Excellent analytical, facilitation and documentation experience with humanitarian programmes.
  • Ability to liaise with a variety of people successfully and effectively in a multicultural set up.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
