TITLE: Pharmaceutical Management Specialist
REPORTS TO: Administratively to the Field Manager and Technically to the Associate Supply Chain Manager
COUNTRY: Somalia
LOCATION: Kismayo, Jubaland
WORKING HOURS: Regular Hours
PSI is looking for an experienced, Pharmaceutical Management Specialist to support the implementation of the Female Health Workers (FHW) Program in Jubaland. Reporting to the Field Manager, and with operation support from the Associate Supply Chain Manager, the Pharmaceutical Management Specialist will be responsible for overseeing the storage, distribution, and reporting of pharmaceutical commodities and other non-medical supplies procured for the program. The Pharmaceutical Management Specialist will be part of the PSI’s team, managing the FHW program in Jubaland.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the storage, distribution, and reporting of pharmaceutical commodities and other supplies provided to female health workers.
- Ensure that pharmaceutical management is in accordance with the revised Female Health Worker Compendium.
- Monitor the utilization of the pharmaceutical commodities and ensure that they reach the intended recipients and are used appropriately.
- Work in conjunction with the Ministry of Health in all issues related to the storage, distribution, and reporting of pharmaceutical commodities and other supplies.
- Provide necessary technical assistance to strengthen pharmaceutical management capacity at the MoH
- Liaise with MoH focal persons for pharmaceutical commodities for safe delivery of medical commodities and equipment from the source to point of use.
- Ensure that pharmaceutical supplies are provided to the health facilities and follow up on utilizations.
- Ensure rational use of pharmaceutical supplies
- Work closely with the Associate Supply Chain Manager to monitor stock balances and stock-outs and ensure timely procurements of pharmaceutical supplies.
- Draft programmatic reports and share them with the Field Manager and Associate Supply Chain Manager.
- Closely work with the Field Manager, Associate Supply Chain Manager, and Operations Director to effectively implement technical work plans in a timely and technically sound manner.
- Participate in the development of training for the pharmaceutical management team at the State and regional level, in collaboration with relevant team members.
- Any other tasks as assigned by the Field Manager.
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor of Pharmacy; additional pharmaceutical qualifications will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical systems management required
- Demonstrated experience in adapting tools, guidelines, and systems to improve pharmaceutical (including cold chain), stock movement, stock management, and reporting.
- Demonstrated experience in pharmaceutical management training
- Experience in developing and adapting electronic pharmaceutical management tools and databases
- Experience working in pharmaceutical management in the public sector is strongly preferred
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Somali languages are required.
- Ability and flexibility to adjust schedules and priorities to meet project deadlines, juggle multiple assignments, and manage shifting priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Experience in Jubaland State is strongly preferred.
