Brief Introduction

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working in Somalia since 1964. As a service provider with worldwide operations in the fields of international cooperation for sustainable development and international education work, GIZ works with its partners to develop effective solutions that offer people better prospects and sustainably improve their living conditions. The goal of GIZ is to support the capacity development of people, organizations and institutional structures in the partner countries so as to enable them better their living conditions through their own efforts.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in cooperation with the Somalia Federal Ministry of Interior and Federal Affairs, is implementing various projects in Somalia, across multiple sectors and regions. In Jubaland Kismayo, GIZ is piloting the graduation approach towards social and economic inclusion of multi-dimensionally poor communities, with a special focus on women headed households, through the project “Socio-economic participation of poor female-headed households in Kismayo” (GIZ SEPOW). This inclusion is achieved through coordinated measures consisting of social protection (including cash transfers), social and economic empowerment, life skills and livelihoods training and financial inclusion

The Intern will work closely with the SEPOW project team to support administrative, operational, and field-based activities, as well as any other tasks relevant for ensuring timely implementation of project deliverables. The intern will gain practical experience and professional growth opportunities by engaging in hands-on project management, developing relevant skills, and contributing meaningfully to the success of the project.

Responsibilities

➢      Assist in managing the project’s beneficiary feedback system, including operating a toll-free hotline, logging incoming feedback, and promptly submitting relevant information to the SEPOW technical team for timely follow-up and resolution,

➢      Track and monitor beneficiary attendance and active participation throughout the various stages of the graduation processes, promptly identifying and reporting cases of absenteeism or non-compliance for remedial action,

➢      Support the technical team in regularly updating and managing case management databases to enhance beneficiary engagement and participation monitoring,

➢      Assist with logistical arrangements for field activities, training sessions, and stakeholder engagement events, ensuring smooth coordination and timely execution,

➢      Conduct mapping and data updates regarding beneficiary locations and their proximity to training centers to inform and optimize logistical planning and resource allocation,

➢      Support monitoring and evaluation efforts by helping with data collection, verification, and entry to ensure accurate project tracking and reporting,

➢      Participate in field visits, training delivery, and community outreach initiatives to provide hands-on support and gather valuable field insights.

➢      Contribute to the preparation of project reports, progress summaries, presentations, and other documentation for dissemination to stakeholders and donors,

➢      Carry out additional duties assigned by the supervisor to promote effective project implementation and support overall team objectives.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

➢      Currently enrolled in or fresh graduate of a degree in Economic, Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Health, or a related field,

➢      Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities,

➢        Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),

➢         Fluency in Somali and good working knowledge of English,

➢         Strong local context knowledge of Kismayo town

➢      Experience in interacting with ultra-poor households with high levels of context sensitivity and empathy

➢        Demonstrated interest in learning and contributing to community development.

➢      Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed and work full time (40 hours per week)
