SRCS Somaliland is seeking for a qualified candidate for the following position:

Job Title:                                             Midwife.  

Grade :                                    Band 3

Organizational unit:              Health Department.

Reporting to:                         Branch Health Officer

Duty Station:                         Goljano clinic, Las’anod, Somaliland

Posting Date:                         17th May 2022.

 Posting Expiry Date:                         30th May 2022.

Contract Type            :                       Fixed Term (One year of possible renewal)

Purpose: SRCS is currently implementing the integrated health care program in six regions of Somaliland supported by Norwegian Redcross(NorCross), Internation Committee of Red Cross/Red Crescent (ICRC), International federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent (IFRC), ICRC and other partnerss. The aims to develop promote and strengthen community-based health care programmes focusing on preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health services to health and protection promotion and care.

Over all job purpose

Provide comprehensive advice, care and support to women and their babies during pregnancy, labour and early postnatal period. Conduct a clean, safe delivery and provide care to the newborn. Refer emergency cases to effectively prevent maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity in compliance with SRCS health policy guidelines and established midwifery care standards and treatment protocols.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Programme Implementation

§  Provide preventive, promotive and curative care to pregnant and lactating mothers including Td vaccine, Postpartum, Vitamin A low complement and health education to childbearing aged women.

§  Provide Antenatal (ANC) care services to pregnant mother.

§  Monitor the progress of labour using partograph and assess care requirements for women during labour and prepare a care plan for childbirth including advice on hygiene and nutrition.

§  Identify women with high-risk conditions during pregnancy (abortion, bleeding, mal-presentations and previous complicated pregnancies, etc) and refer them to higher health facilities for further investigation and management.

§  Provide information, emotional support and reassurance to women in labour and their partners.

§  Monitor and administer uterotonic drugs, and manage third stage of labour.

§  Provide support to women during labour and birth to ensure normal delivery of the new born

§  Manage complications in childbirth, according to the principles of obstetric care.

§  Support parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth and neonatal death.

§  Ensure that TBAs mobilize children and pregnant women on vaccination days

§  Accept referrals from CHW &TBA liaises with the team leader to facilitate referrals to higher-level facilities.

§  Ensure the cleaning, sterilization, maintenance and preparation of instruments and general hygiene

§  Perform basic resuscitation of the newborn baby using the standard equipment.

§  Monitor progress of the mother during the postnatal period and advice on infant care

§  Raise requisitions for replenishment of drugs, consumable supplies for childbirth and care

§  Compile accurate data on all childbirth cases and prepare monthly reports

Collaborate with the team leader in the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports 

Skills and qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Midwifery with experience in maternal and child health                                 

Required Job Experience and Competencies

ü  Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in implementing an integrated health program consisting of maternal and child health, immunization, nutrition, HIV/Aids as well as health and hygiene promotion within a humanitarian context

ü  Demonstrating consistency in upholding integrity and ethics

ü  Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement

ü  Team leader with demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills

ü  Effective communications and interpersonal skills

ü  Demonstrate openness to change & ability to manage complexities

ü  Demonstrated conflict resolution skills and ability to manage inter¬group dynamics and mediate conflicting interests

ü  Excellent writing skills, analytical capacity to synthesize project outputs and findings for the preparation of quality programme reports

ü  Maturity & confidence in dealing with senior and high-ranking officials

ü  Remain calm, in control and good-humoured even under pressure

ü  Respond positively to critical feedback and differing points of views

ü  Proficiency in computer office packages word, excel, power point

We offer:

SRCS offers a contract of one year, renewable depending on both funding and performance.

Salary and Benefits are according to SRCS terms of employment for national staff.
