This position is located in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) and based in Mogadishu. The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the security management system to enable the safest and most efficient conduct of the security programmes and activities of the United Nations System. Under the overall management of the Principal Security Adviser of UNDSS Integrated Security Workforce, Somalia, the incumbent will report to the Chief Security Officer, through the Supervisor of Security Operations Centre.
Within delegated authority, the Security Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Assists the Chief Security Officer/Area Security Coordinator/Head of Security Unit in the supervision of a Security Unit, as assigned; • Drafts and updates security contingency plans for a security unit; • Monitors prevailing local security conditions and trends and advises UN personnel, project personnel and eligible dependents on security issues; • Serves as a member of the Security Cell, contributing to implementation and evaluation of the security plan; • Monitors air, land and sea emergency evacuation capability; conducts evacuation exercise; • Assists in the evaluation accessible areas, maintain tracking systems and assist in the coordination of a 24-hour Emergency Response System; • Contributes to security risk assessments for the area of operations; • Monitors, conducts or coordinates security operations; • Maintains continuing lines of communication with security focal points and other UN or non-UN stake holders; • Assists senior Officers in briefing to the PSA/CSO/DCSO/ASA on the status, activity and requirements of the unit; • Ensures that fire prevention devices and fire-fighting equipment are available on the premises; Maintains fire evacuation plan and conducts fire drills and training as necessary. • Conducts routine physical security inspections of facilities; • Assumes responsibility for guard force management; Monitors and evaluates office physical security measures, and conducts security surveys of installations and facilities; implements security arrangements • Provides advice and training to UN personnel and eligible dependents on security matters, as assigned; • Investigates security-related incidents involving UN personnel, project personnel or eligible dependents; • Contributes to the identification of gaps in existing capability and make recommendation for amendment where necessary; • Assists in planning of protective services for Senior UN Officials, as necessary; • Prepares Statements of Requirement and provides technical specifications for the procurement of section security equipment; • Monitors Security equipment and ensures minimum equipment requirements are purchased, maintained and deployed in accordance with relevant policy; • Coordinates issuance of identity cards, background checks and entry controls, as appropriate; • Sets up and manages a warden system according to policy • Acts as Duty Officer within the Security Section, if needed; • Provide emergency response and first aid, including the effective use of medical kits and trauma equipment. • Performs other duties as required

Skills and qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required
A minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police, security management or analysis with a military, police or international security management organization, including at least two years experience and exposure at the international level and at least one year of experience in a conflict and post conflict environment is required. Experience in digital security solutions, including Power Apps and integrated data platforms within the Security Operations Centre (SOC), to enhance reporting efficiency and streamline operational workflows is desirable. Experience in providing emergency response and first aid, including the effective use of medical kits and trauma equipment. Assesses, stabilizes, and responds promptly to medical emergencies, applying established procedures to support personnel safety and contribute to overall security operations is desirable.
