Context
Since 2006, IOM Somalia has been implementing a range of humanitarian and development projects in all regions of Somalia. With more than 7 million people requiring humanitarian assistance in 2023, evolving mixed migration flows in and out of Somalia, increasing access and donor interest in Somalia, programmatic scope for IOM is growing rapidly. In this context, IOM Somalia is implementing a multitude of projects and is expanding its sectoral portfolio. IOM Somalia is therefore seeking an incumbent to support graphic design efforts.
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the direct supervision of the Media and Communications Officer, and in coordination with Senior Communications Assistants, the Graphic Design Assistant will support the public and internal communications of IOM Somalia through assisting in the development and designing of key information and visibility products.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Use IOM branding to produce digital and print information and communications materials such as situation reports, social media content, presentations, research reports, story and photo books, information sheets, email bulletins, banners, leaflets, field visibility items and publications such as brochures.
- Follow IOM brand guidelines when producing digital and print documents.
- Support development, improvement and/or editing of artwork, photographs, charts, and other graphic elements for use in IOM Somalia’s digital and print products.
- Support design and implementation of field visibility and donor related documents while following donor and partner visibility requirements.
- Support in design of data visualizations and infographics.
- Support in updating IOM Somalia’s Visibility and Communication folders so all created products are accessible to relevant colleagues.
- Support with the translation of text from English to Somali for communication materials targeting communities.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Skills and qualifications
Education
- Bachelor´s Degree in Graphic Design or other related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or
- High School Degree in above fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of related professional experience
Experience
• Minimum two years of professional experience in graphic design.
• Usage of Adobe Creative Suite programmes, particularly in Design, Photoshop and Illustrator mandatory.
• Experience in photography and videography, both shooting and editing an advantage.
• Experience working with international agencies like the UN is an advantage.
Skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds.
• Excellent graphic design skills.
• Creative thinker and with a good eye for design.
• High level of professionalism and ability to work under pressure and adhere to strict deadlines in a complex and fast changing environment.
• Demonstrated gender awareness and gender sensitivity.
Languages
Fluency in English and Somali is required.

In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting distance, and work permit, as applicable.
