Job Title: Project Coordinator

Background 

The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is an independent, non-political humanitarian organization that was founded in April 1963 and was established with presidential decree No. 187 in 1965. It was then recognized by the ICRC in 1969 and in the same year became a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent societies.

The Somali Red Crescent Society is currently looking for a qualified candidate to fill the vacant position of Project coordinator – Somalia for funded by ECHO HIP project is implemented by SRCS, under the grant management responsibility of the Finnish Red Cross (lead partner), together with the Norwegian Red Cross. The project will be implemented over 2-year period, starting in May. In the first year of implementation the project will be implemented in the branches of, with planned expansion to 

Job purpose

The main long-term goal of the project is to strengthen SRCS systems and capacities for effective and efficient disaster response. The project consists of 24 months  main components: disaster risk management (DRM), epidemic/pandemic preparedness.

The Project Coordinator –will be responsible for day-to-day management, oversight and support to the project, in an efficient and coordinated way. 

Job duties and responsibilities

Specific duties will include, but will not be limited to: 

1)     Keeping track of activity planning, ensuring timely implementation and alerting the line management on any anticipated delays or other difficulties.

2)     Liaising closely with the operational branches of SRCS branches in two year and overseeing and supporting the implementation of tasks by branch level DRM/WASH and, Community Health staff. .

3)     Providing technical support to the DRM and CVA components of the project, including community based DRR, Disaster Preparedness (DP stocks, warehousing, logistics), cash distribution and preparedness activities – depending on technical profile.

4)      Collecting regular updates from the community health project manager on the implementation of CH/CBS activities (result 2of the project) and ensuring coordination with other activities.

5)     Carry out regular scheduled field visits to all operational areas for monitoring and support and update the programme management team on the findings.

6)     Based on guidance given by the Finnish RC supporting partners, collect inputs and prepare regular project reports in given templates and according to agreed standards.

7)     Work closely with consortium counterparts at field level to ensure effective implementation of the program

8)     Work closely with the project finance team, oversee budget implementation and discuss necessary action with SRCS and it’scounterparts. All budgetary adjustments need to be approved by partners as per the results they lead. Ensure the expenses are in accordance with the financial guideline and procedures.

9)     Oversee local procurements related to the project, in accordance with approved procedures, and in coordination with the relevant SRCS and it’s counterparts.

10) Facilitate programme visits by the partners and organize meetings, workshops and other face-to-face and virtual interactions at Coordination level.

Duties applicable to the staff

  1. Actively work towards the achievement of the SRCS goals and Federation Secretariat’s goals

2. Abide by and work in accordance with the Red Cross and Red Crescent principles

3. Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager or delegated to another staff member by the line Manager.

Skills and qualifications

Position Requirements

Education  

Relevant University degree or equivalent qualification                            

Experience  

Minimum 7 years’ experience in implementing disaster risk management and/or cash and voucher assistance programmes 

Experience and knowledge of the project management cycle                                                            

Proven experience in managing and supporting field teams 

Proven experience in budgeting and financial management of projects                                       

Proven experience in project monitoring and reporting

Knowledge and Skills

Required

Ability to manage operation and teams from remote 

Languages

Fluently spoken and written English 

Fluent in Somali language
