    How can you make a difference?

    Scope of work:

    As a key partner of the GPEI, UNICEF has the mandate to provide assistance to fast track and effective coordination, planning and monitoring for C4D and cold chain logistics activities at the field level which needs day-to-day country office guidance and inputs. This will harness the strength and contribution of all stakeholders at the state and regional levels for effective response to the outbreak. The organization relies on highly trained and experienced personnel of staff and consultants to meet this obligation.

    The international consultant will provide support to all the three zonal offices with more focus on Central-South Somalia to plan operational response to the poliovirus outbreak and implement polio preventive campaigns and to a larger extent, routine immunization activities. S/he will focus on the outbreak response and preventive campaigns, finalization of access to inaccessible areas framework and cross-border planning activities for both polio and RI activities. The prospective consultant will work in collaboration with health authorities and other health partners.  S/he will conduct capacity building activities and with frequent visits to the field for supportive supervision.

    Duty station:

    The consultant will be based in Mogadishu, Somalia and will be entitled to rest and recuperation every after 4 weeks. 

    Skills and Qualifications

    Master's degree in public health, social sciences, development planning, statistics, or related field and at least 5 years of work experience in EPI or child health or public health programs.

    Work experience:

    • At least 5 years of professional work experience at national and international levels in health communication, immunization/GPEI and other relevant programs
    • Experience in program/response coordination and EPI strategies including Polio Eradication initiative as well as SIAs Implementation.
    • Experience working in outbreak response is an asset.
    • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.

    Competencies:

    • Ability to work quickly and effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Familiarity and/or experience with UNICEF and the UN system is desired.
    • Excellent facilitation skills, negotiation skills and oral and written communication skills.
    • High proficiency in English both written and verbal is required.
    • A repertoire of a wide range of facilitation approaches.
    • Strong analytical skills
