YouthLink Somalia better known as ‘’YouthLink’’ is a registered national humanitarian NGO established in 2006. YouthLink is dedicated to working with extreme poor and vulnerable communities to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty. The organization’s work focuses on assisting extreme poor urban and displaced communities to building their resilience to shocks and achieve improved livelihood. YouthLink implements a multi-sectoral resilience building long-term programme aimed at lifting the most vulnerable and the poorest urban communities out of poverty and delivering lifesaving health and nutrition services to drought-affected populations in IDPs.

Job Summary

The Field Coordinator will report directly to the Programmes Director (PD) and liaises with other programme staff and support staff as required and necessary. The Field Coordinator will support the PD by functioning as the focal point for all field activity implementation and ensuring the successful implementation of project activities on the ground. The Field Coordinator will be responsible for providing leadership, technical oversight, and direct management of all activities related to the programme. The incumbent will represent YouthLink at relevant coordination forums in Mogadishu along with the PD or in the absence of the PD.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of programme to deliver assistance to drought-affected vulnerable households including urban poor, ensuring timeliness and delivery according to the activity plan and results framework in line with YouthLink’s approaches and policies and international best practices.
  • Ensure YouthLink’s values and programme objectives are communicated amongst line-managed staff to foster understanding, ownership and the organisational culture.
  • Contribute to programme strategy development and project proposals, and provide input on needs and gaps.
  • Lead the implementation of projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated and in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality.
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and assess new and better ways to assist.
  • Ensure timely project work plans are implemented in line with relevant programme documents (Logical Framework, programme annual plan, budget).
  • Conduct frequent monitoring and supervision visits to the target programme locations and communities.
  • Prepare a timely and quality report to fulfil internal (YouthLink) and external (Partners and Donors).
  • Lead and actively participate in Budget Versus Actual (BVA) tracking for YouthLink.
  • Track the progress of activities, ensure the collection of project indicators and provide on-time status reports and external donor reports as required by donors.
  • Support the development of mechanisms and tools that facilitate staff to document and disseminate lessons learned and models of good practices from the programme including documentation of best practices and lessons learned and assist in disseminating them to staff and partners.
  • Provide capacity building for staff through mentoring and training and ensure timely performance development reviews are conducted.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of the complaints and response mechanism and the meaningful participation of the affected community in programme planning, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Undertake periodic beneficiary discussions and engagements to keep up to date with community perceptions of the project, changing needs and opinions.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings to ensure awareness of programme objectives, and provide opportunities for feedback on good project practices based on identified needs and capacity building.
  • Ensure synergy and facilitate the integration of programme components (Health & Nutrition, WASH and livelihoods).
  • Represent YouthLink in coordination meetings with relevant stakeholders at local and national level, promote and build good relations with them and coordinate activities with other humanitarian actors, donors, UN, and civil authorities in the area of intervention.
  • Coordinate with local and national authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate successful implementation of programme intervention whilst representing YouthLink intervention in relevant coordination meetings in Mogadishu.
  • Promote relations and coordinate activities with other humanitarian actors, donors, the UN, and relevant government authorities in the area of intervention.
  • Any other duties assigned by the program director related to the nature of the job.

Skills and qualifications

  • Relevant university degree (preferably MA) in social work, social sciences, development or any other relevant fields.
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in planning and implementing projects on humanitarian agencies in fragile contexts.
  • Knowledge and experience about own leadership skills/profile and people management.
  • High-level competency in computer skills (Microsoft Windows and Office applications).
  • Must be able to prioritize and have excellent multitasking and documentation skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills, diplomatic and self-directed.
