CALLS FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR DENTAL AND EYE PROFESSIONALS TREATMENT FOR CHILDREN AT SOS CHILDREN’S VILLAGES IN MOGADISHU

1. INTRODUCTION

SOS Children's Villages has been operational in Somalia for the past  39  years and is uniquely placed to strongly advocate and protect the rights of children in Somalia by providing family based setting with stable relationship and a child-friendly environment that are essential for the health and emotional and physical development of every child by providing alternative care for children who have lost parental care or at risk of loosing.  At SOS Children’s Village in Somalia, we build families for abandoned and orphaned children by providing them family-like care and help them shape their own futures, and share in the development of their communities. In the family-based setting, our approach is holistic. 

Currently, SOS Children’s Villages is home to 111 (72 boys 39 girls)   supported emotionally, materially and in terms of education from primary to secondary education.  Once the children reach the age of 14 years, children are enrolled in the youth care program and prepared for community integration and successful independent life in their communities. Along with this, SOS Children’s Villages Somalia operates SOS Mother and Child Hospital specializes in the care of women and children.  This is to ensure preventive health care for children at the village. SOS Cv carry out  Regular check-ups  to monitor children's growth and development, screen for and identify potential concerns, and treat them to prevent bigger problems later.

Reference to  this background, SOS Children Villages Somalia is inviting for potential Dental and Eye Professionals for a longer-term partnership to participate in a unique opportunity to serve those in need here in our community.

2. OVERALL OBJECTIVES OF THE ENGAGEMENT:

The objective of this call for partnership on voluntary community services is to provide a comprehensive dental and eye care services camp to 120 children and 30 adults at the SOS Children's Village in Mogadishu, Somalia. The voluntary eye and dental care services is envisioned to provide much needed eye and dental care health services to the Children and youth under the care of SOS Children’s Villages in Mogadishu as well as the staff working with the children.

3. EXPECTED SCOPE OF WORK :

The proposed partnership for voluntary medical services shall:  

·         Conduct comprehensive dental health and eye screenings to identify and diagnose issues early.

·         Educate the community on good oral health practices, including brushing and flossing techniques, to prevent future dental problems.

·         Optometrist services for 120 children and 30 adults.

·         Provision of eyeglasses for those who need them.

4. Methodology and Approach of Engagement.

The proposed partnership framework seeks longer-term professional services from the interested Eye and Dental Professionals. The interested applicants should provide a detailed description of their expertise in this particular service for children with a clear work plan on how they will execute the assignment. Also, the interested applicants are expected to share their past relevant experience in providing similar services to children under institutional care or family-based arrangements such as foster care families.

The event will be hosted at the SOS Children's Village Hospital in Heliwa District in Mogadishu. The voluntary professional team will work along with medical professionals at SOS CV  Hospital.

5.        Duration and timeframe of the engagement

  The assignment is envisioned to last for a period of  2 years with an agreed timeframe on regular check-ups and treatment schedules for children with eye and dental care needs as identified in the screening and consultations.

·         Expression of Interest:  Stating why you consider your service suitable for the required assignment and a brief methodology on the approach for rendering the services.

·         Experience and expertise in similar voluntary engagement including contribution, added Value and comparative advantage in providing and extending such services to our children.

·         Relevant legal registration certificates/permits to offer such services

·         Personal CVs of technical personnel proposed for this project highlighting qualifications and experience in similar assignment;

·         Expected support from SOS CV children in undertaking the required services.
