The overall objective of the polio eradication initiative is to lead the global eradication partnership to interrupt the transmission of poliovirus worldwide, certify eradication, and eventually, stop the use of oral poliovirus vaccine and mainstream the polio eradication infrastructure and functions within the public health systems of the member states.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- Lead and provide technical support for AFP surveillance, SIA and EPI data management, including the definition, development and deployment of the necessary data collection and validation processes, systems and tools.
- Maintain the AFP surveillance, SIA and EPI data management system and provide trainings and facilitation to build/strengthen capacity of national staff with regard to usage of the system.
- Conduct extensive weekly analysis on AFP, Contact and community samples, AFP cases validation, zero-dose investigation and provide feedback for field team and follow-up action points.
- Follow up on implementation of recommendations given from external surveillance review, TAG and other meetings or Polio eradication advisory groups.
- Provide merged surveillance reports to EMRO on weekly basis.
- Conduct quarterly risk assessment for polio transmission.
- Support assessment design to ensure data quality; manage platforms and tools that support mobile data collection and analysis such as KoBo Toolbox and Open Data Kit (ODK).
- Provide continuous mentorship and on job training for national and zonal data managers.
- Produce and update information products such as EPI/POL weekly bulletin, Polio Situation updates, charts and infographics by turning data into graphical products.
- Conduct analysis on campaign data and present key findings for partners propose action points and make follow-up on implementation.
- Strengthen national and subnational EPI/POL information repository and prepare documentation for polio certification Implement data governance and quality related activities.
Skills and qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation
Essential: University degree in science, mathematics, statistics, IT or relevant subject.
Desirable: Specialized training in supporting public health activities.
Experience
Essential: At least 5 years of relevant experience in health data management and database administration with specific experience in providing analysis and reports for decision support.
Desirable: Experience in the Eastern Mediterranean region and/or with UN and/or international organization as well as with polio eradication programme data analysis and management.
Skills
- Knowledge and understanding of theories, concepts and approaches relevant to the management of information in complex emergencies and outbreak response.
- Ability to identify issues, analyze health data and trends and participate in the resolution of issues/problems.
-Ability to conduct data collection and analysis using various methods.
- Conceptual analytical and evaluative skills to conduct independent research and analysis, including familiarity with and experience in the use of various research sources, including electronic sources on the internet, intranet and other databases.
- Ability to apply judgment in the context of assignments given, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities.
- Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results.
