POLISH HUMANITARIAN ACTION IS LOOKING FOR WASH ENGINEER

About PAH:
Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is a non-governmental organization which mission it is to make the world a better place. For over 20 years, we have been providing relief in big and small emergencies worldwide alongside with running long-term missions in several countries in crisis.
Our interventions – of both humanitarian and development character– have been carried out in 44 countries so far. Our focus is on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering the consequences of war and/or natural disasters. PAH Mission in Somalia:
PAH has been present in Somalia since 2011. With WASH, FSL and Nutrition programs PAH supported people from the most vulnerable communities in different regions in Somalia. Our primary focus is to provide safe drinking water through rehabilitation of water infrastructure, constructing water distribution systems, and constructing rainwater reservoirs. In our work we also focus on other WASH components such as improvement of sanitary conditions, hygiene promotion to make our WASH interventions fully comprehensive. Our current donors are ECHO, GFFO, SHF and UNICEF. PAH programs targets the most vulnerable IDPs, host and rural communities as well as institutions in Banadir, Lower Shebelle, Middle Shebelle and Galmudug Region.
PAH in Somalia is looking for a WASH engineer who will become part of our operation team. The person will hold the following responsibilities:
- Preparation of BOQs and drawings for all water supply and sanitation infrastructures to be implemented in the targeted areas.
- Execute implementation of all WASH infrastructure activities as per implementation plan, BOQs, drawings and specifications.
- Monitor and supervise WASH activities and ensure effective implementation of the WASH activities.
- Maintain material record at construction sites and ensure quality of all material arrived on all sites.
- Validate the progress and quality of work of the contractors and make connection with the administration and logistics to ensure their payments are made well on time.
- Identify project supplies needs Prepare requisitions and coordinate with operation team to ensure materials arrive timely to work site.
- Ensure community participation in all WASH infrastructure activities.
- Technical Training of WASH committees and volunteers.
- Regular visits to field areas to supervise all WASH infrastructure activities and ensure quality of all WASH infrastructures.
- Supervises contractors working on project sites and conducts quality control of infrastructure installed by the PAH.
- Conducting water quality analysis in the field locations and updating water quality reports, also to propose recommendations for the water treatment systems.
- Follow all PAH protocols and regulations according to guidance provided by the direct supervisor.
- Ensure that construction works are integrated with hygiene promotion and community participation component, to ensure sustainability of the infrastructure built.
- Ensures that contract terms are understood and respected by the contractors.
- Weekly reporting to the Project manager, including key achievements and planning for the following week.
- Performs any other duty assigned by your immediate supervisor or Head of Program
Skills and qualifications
The role is one that requires technical expertise (in water, water quality analysis, sanitation, structural design and/or construction).
- Bachelor/Diploma in Water engineering, Civil engineering, Environmental science, or engineering or equivalent.
- Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to build good relations both internally and externally.
- Experience in the design and delivery of training or capacity building program
- Minimum of three years’ work experience in engineering project implementation and supervision particularly on water and sanitation infrastructures.
- Spoken and written English proficiency is essential.
- Physically able to spend long periods of time in the field.
- Knowledge about WASH-related activities especially hygiene promotion and AWD prevention
- Readiness to travel including remote areas.
