We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Transmission and Distribution Engineer specializing in Substation Design to join our dynamic team and contribute to impactful projects that transform Somalia’s energy infrastructure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Design and Engineering:

• Develop comprehensive designs for medium-voltage and high-voltage (HV) substations, including electrical layouts, protection systems, and earthing schemes.
• Integrate renewable energy solutions into the transmission and distribution network to enhance system efficiency and sustainability.
• Create protection and control schemes tailored to substation operations, ensuring compliance with international standards and company requirements.
• Prepare tender packages, design specifications, and bills of quantities for substation-related projects.

Project Execution and Coordination:

• Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
• Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) to ensure equipment meets technical and safety standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution from design to commissioning.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

• Establish and enforce Quality Control Plans (QCP) to maintain high engineering standards across projects.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC) and align with BSE’s operational requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments for substation projects and implement mitigation strategies.

Documentation and Reporting:

• Prepare detailed design reports, cost estimates, and “As-Built” documentation for completed projects.
• Provide technical input and recommendations during project planning and execution.

Client and Stakeholder Engagement:

• Act as the technical lead for substation design, providing expert advice to clients and stakeholders.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, contractors, and other partners to align project objectives and secure necessary approvals.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a preferred focus on Transmission and Distribution.

Experience:

• 3-5 years of experience in substation design and transmission/distribution systems.
• Proven expertise in designing protection schemes, earthing systems, and control plants.

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, or equivalent tools.
• In-depth understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
