Mercy-USA Somalia Program has been implementing Health, Nutrition, Education and wash among other projects funded by it is HQ and Donors since 1994 in Somalia Mercy-USA Somalia program hereby invites qualified and interested applicants to submit applications for the position of Country office Finance Coordinator based in Mogadishu
NATURE AND SCOPE:
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Finance Coordinator to oversee and strengthen financial management systems, ensure compliance with donor and regulatory requirements, and support smooth program implementation for Mercy-USA. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, coordinating donor and internal financial reporting, supervising finance staff, and supporting audits.
The Finance Coordinator will play a critical role in maintaining and strengthening internal controls, building staff capacity, ensuring accountability, and providing financial leadership to the country office finance department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain accounting/internal control systems, discuss and recommend improvements to policies and procedures, ensuring accuracy of accounting data for Mercy-USA.
• Coordinate donor financial reporting and reconciling donor reports with QuickBooks reports on regular basis. Proactively liquidate donor advances and put forward fund requests for different projects to ensure smooth implementation of Mercy USA programs.
• Keep custody, understand and implement grant agreements/contracts requirements and further organize training for finance and non-finance staff on the requirements of donor agreements and ensure that such requirements are also established within the organization’s internal control systems.
• Coordinate government and government agents’ returns including tax remittances, quarterly and yearly returns where needed.
• Substantiate financial transactions by confirming availability of full and proper supporting documentations.
• Supporting and liaising with the Internal Audit unit during external audits and answering queries on financial matters.
• Ensuring the facilitation of monthly burn rates review in conjunction with the program teams
• Ensuring the reconciliations for all bank and cash accounts.
• Ensuring Interbank transfers are done accurately and reconciled on monthly basis.
• Build the capacity of the finance team by organizing relevant trainings on a continuous basis
• Build the capacity of program teams and field offices’ staff by organizing sessions of “trainings-for- non finance staff” mainly on donor requirements and on internal controls.
• Supervise Finance Officers/Assistants
• Carry out other duties as required and requested by the HOFA
Skills and qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATION AND REQUIRIMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL DESIRED
Academic • Master Degree in Finance and/or Accounting
• Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, etc.) will be an added advantage CPA-K
Gender & Position: Both male and female candidates are encouraged to apply

Must be Somali Citizen
Experience • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in a similar role.
• Demonstrated ability to run a finance department and manage teams
• Computer skills in MS Office.
• Working experience working with Quick Books or any other accounting system
Previous INGO experience
including working in complex and volatile contexts is added advantage
• Experience working as finance coordinator or at least as a senior finance officer in the humanitarian/private sector
• Experience working in Somalia
• Fluency in English and Somali, both written and verbal.

Working Conditions
• This position will be based at the Mercy-USA’s Country Office in Mogadishu Somalia

Contract Duration:
One year, renewable subject to performance and funding availability
